Update on Kathy's Surgery!

Dear Family and Friends,

Most of you know our friend Kathy went in for a surgical

procedure for a Butt Lift using the Obama Care Medical Plan
through her new state run insurance exchange.

She did not have the most pleasant experience. She should have

left well enough alone.

We wanted to show you how it turned out. We hope this makes

you aware of the quality of care you will receive from the
Affordable Healthcare Act (Obama Care)

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE . . do not get a Butt Lift using the

Obama Care Medical Plan.  The Obama care qualified doctor
was a 3rd year med student from another country making
12 bucks an hour.

Kathy regrets her decision, I think we all will regret Obama care.

 Thanks David!

Its going to be about 35.85%. After what they already took out, I will still have to pay about $171,391. I have $150k of that set aside in a short term CD.

Im not sure if ill have to pay FICA or not since this is from lottery winnings. It may be exempt. I know I do not have to pay the Obama Care tax, because Lottery winnings have been exempted from that as income. Maybe someone here knows how FICA works? If I do have to pay FICA, that adds another 40k in taxes.

Can Obama change?
By Dinesh D’Souza
Published November 13, 2012
Listening to President Obama speak on election night, I thought of the moment in “The Lion King” when Scar took over Pride Rock. (You have to see the movie to just appreciate D’Souza’s right-on analogy) My sentiment for America was perfectly captured by the accompanyin g song, “Be Prepared.”

Be prepared, America, for another $5 trillion dollars in debt. That means America would be over $20 trillion in debt, one half of it added by one man, Barack Obama.
Be prepared for higher taxes on those who are pulling the wagon, and more benefits for those who are sitting in the wagon.

Be prepared for further restrictions on hydraulic fracturing and oil drilling in America, even as President Obama promotes and subsidizes oil drilling in developing nations.

Be prepared for transfers of wealth away from America and to the rest of the world.
This is what we as a country have voted for.

Be prepared, also, for the further diminution of American power and influence in the world. This involves our allies falling, one by one, in the Middle East, while the radical Muslims consolidate their power in Iran, Egypt and elsewhere.

Ultimately just as Reagan was largely responsible for the fall of the Soviet Union, President Obama may be credited by history for helping to rest ore Islam as a global power, which it has not been for three centuries. By 2016 America could cease to be the world’s sole superpower, and have become rather a weak giant, a kind of second Canada. This, too, we have risked by giving President Obama a second term.

These predictions are not conjecture but rather projections out from what President Obama has been doing in his first term. As he suggested to Russia’s then-president Medvedev, Mr. Obama now has more flexibility to make the concessions and pursue the objectives that he really wants. He is, at least in foreign policy, untethered to public opinion, and answerable only to his own conscience. (a concept completely alien to narcissists) disk

For me, this is a scary prospect. I can see America in 2016 as a poorer, weaker nation, and this would make Americans frustrated and angry.
But why should President Obama care?

He would, as he cleared out his desk, feel the profound satisfaction of a man who had single-handedly rearranged the political and economic map of the world. He would have helped redistribute wealth and power globally, and th us restored the world as it was before colonialism. His reward would be that still, small voice inside his head telling him, “Well done thou true and faithful servant.”

Consequently you can imagine the amusement with which I watched pundits, including Democratic pundits like Lanny Davis, counsel President Obama to be like President Clinton in his second term. Sure, Mr. Clinton pivoted to the center, recognizing that he was governing a closely divided country.

Clinton, however, was committed to American prosperity and American greatness; Obama isn’t. Clinton also wanted to be liked by his people, the American people. For Obama, to borrow a quotation from his mother, “These are not my people.” Obama’s commitments are global.

So I don’t expect Obama to change. I have argued in my book “Obama’s America,” and implied in my film “2016,” that he cannot change. He is like the toy soldier who walks into the wall and keeps going. That is the only Obama we can realistically expect for the next four years.
And yet …

I watched Obama closely on election night, recognizing the familiar hubris and bravado, I thought to myself: how brilliant he is, how he strides across America like a colossus, how he may have assembled a new and enduring majority, how this is his America now, how this man whose story is possible only in America has now twice been entrusted by America with the highest office in the land.

Isn’t that enough to make a man want to defend and advance the interest of his country? Isn’t it sufficient to make Obama seek to protect the economic welfare of his fellow citizens over that of the citizens of other countries? Ideology may not compel Obama to move in these directions, but his own self-image might. Obama has been raised on high by the American people, who are looking to him to lead them not down the hill but onward and upward, to greater and higher things.

How incredible it would be if Obama responded to this great trust by proving himself worthy of it. That would truly make him one of America’s great presidents. He would even, in this way, be helping the world, because a strong, thriving America is good for the security and prosperity of the world. Maybe this very smart man can rise above his past and figure that out.

(But, don’t hold your breath and may G-d have pity upon us and the useful idiots that kept this diabolical man in power) jsk

What's changed six years into the Affordable Care Act?
Six years ago, today, the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as "Obama Care," was signed into law . The goal was to make health care accessible to all Americans, and to eliminate disparities based on income, education, gender and race.

Where Gary Nodler stands on 9 key issues
Q: How should we hand the immigration problem with Mexico?  What do you think of the Arizona law?
The first priority should be to secure our border.  I would support the use of our armed forces to secure our southern border.  I am not sure if the Arizona law is the best answer, but I am not going to be quick to criticize the efforts of states to protect their citizens when the federal government has failed to do so.
Q: How can the Congress promote economic growth and  jobs?

We need to insure adequate access to credit from the banking industry by reducing regulatory barriers to lending.  We need to lower tax burdens on businesses that create incentives to move commerce offshore.  Cap & Trade legislation needs to be defeated which would add to the cost of business in the Midwest.  We also need tort reform.
Q: What can Congress do to make our education system more effective?

Education is not a constitutional responsibility of the federal government.  It is the first responsibility of Missouri state government under our state constitution, after the payment of public debt.  The federal government should not burden states with federal education rules.

Q:  Earmarks: what do you think about them and why?
Americans are fed up with the buying, selling and trading of votes through earmarks.  I would favor a rule change that would make it an ethics violation to promise an appropriation in exchange for a vote for or against unrelated legislation.  I am not in favor of the United States House of Representatives abandoning its constitutional responsibility to line item the federal budget.  That would give President Obama and his bureaucrats control over spending that rightfully belongs to the elected representatives of the people.
Q: Health care: where do we go from here now that the U.S. has reformed health care?
I will fight for the repeal of “Obama care.”  If we are unable to repeal it, I would vote to starve it through the appropriation process.  This battle is not over and I will fight to protect patient choice and access to health care.
Q: What is your opinion of drilling for oil in national park land and how do you prevent another Gulf oil slick?
I would support more drilling options on land in National parks and preserves.  I also think we would be better served if the offshore drilling was being done by American companies and not foreign interests drilling near the United States.
Q: Discuss the balance between personal privacy and individual freedoms versus protection from terrorists.
This is a very difficult question.  In order to achieve greater security we must sacrifice some of our liberties, but if the loss of liberty is too great the terrorists can achieve part of their goal by forcing us to lose some of our freedom.  We must be constantly vigilant to make sure that our pursuit of security does not lead to a loss of the basic freedoms defined by our Founding Fathers.
Q: How can our government realistically cut the federal debt?
The first step in bringing our debt under control is to stop adding to it. Beyond that we must find ways to stimulate economic growth and fight to make sure that spending rises more slowly than the expansion of our economy.  We cannot solve this problem without robust economic growth.
Q: How can the federal government reform Social Security?
Any changes in social security must be prospective and far enough in the future to insure that we are not breaking our promise to existing recipients  or those who have paid-in for a substantial amount of time.  We should not change the rules in the middle of the game for hard working Americans who have done their part, and now have the right to expect the government to do its part.  As with the previous question, this solution requires robust growth in our economy.

Because "Mele Kalikimaka" is so difficult to pronounce
The left-leaning media is still hyperventilating about Russian interference with our election, going so far in some cases as to declare that we are no longer a free country and that Vladimir "Nice Pecs" Putin has successfully pulled off a massive coup d'etat. Apparently, his evil goal is to destroy us from within by facilitating the appointment of brain surgeons to cabinet positions.

All of which would seem considerably more like a terrifying existential crisis if Barack Obama cared enough to have skipped his annual bajillion-dollar Christmas getaway to the five-star environs of Hawaii. But there he is again, thousands of miles from the Oval Office - golfing, gnawing shave ice, eschewing any traditional symbols of Christmas or Christianity entirely, and (understandably) avoiding contact with family members as much as possible...

It's all the more impressive considering her deep sense of hopelessness.
Frankly, we're so sick of the first family and their wretched excesses that we pulled these cartoons out of the vault and can't really work up any enthusiasm about coming up with fresh ways to disparage them today. We're tired, we detest them, and we just want them gone.

Not that it's a bad start having them on Oahu. Which, by wild coincidence, is what we'll be shouting when they're escorted (hopefully forcefully) out of the White House on January 20th.

...to help us fill out the page at least a little more.
Seriously, why isn't PETA all over this?!
Unlike sunny, expensive Oahu, it got darned cold in north Texas last night...and we've discovered that the pipes have frozen in one of the bathrooms. We've now got a heat lamp on the exterior wall, and a battery of space heaters and hair dryers blowing on the interior pipes (the area with the actual blockage can't be reached directly).

There is also a real sense of suspense, wondering if - at any moment - our bathroom faucet will simply return to normal operations...or we'll discover that a ruptured pipe is filling the walls of our home with water just in time for a randomly selected plumber to earn enough money for all of his Christmas shopping. And a Hawaiian vacation.

Thank you for asking. Healthcare.gov finally conceded my imaginary earning status for 2017 so that I could select another crappy, overpriced HMO plan - which I did.

And I assume all of that went smoothly, because last week I received six - count 'em - six new ID cards from Blue Cross. Three for me, and three for Mrs. Jarlsberg who isn't on the policy anymore.  Then on Saturday, I received two more ID's, both of which are in my name but showing different policy numbers.  So there's at least some chance that I now have 8 insurance policies.

None of which stopped Healthcare.gov from sending me daily reminders that I was not insured and needed to hurry to beat the cutoff deadline. Which they've now extended since the website (for the umpteenth time) failed to keep up with the traffic.

They've also let me know that I can pay my multiple insurance policies by giving them my banking information and letting their crack computers siphon money whenever they feel like it.  I'd sooner hand over my information to a Nigerian prince who wants to share his fortune.

(Noon Update: I swear on all that's Holy that I just got two more ID cards in today's mail.)

Not, of course, that there's anything wrong with that.

The Devil and Donald Trump, or Strike Tents, Don; Sounds Like the Old Scratch Won

I'm a White Sox fan.  I know the thrill of almost getting there.  The delight of watching back-to-back hits to the gaps and the balloon popping disappointment of leaving two men on - inning after inning.

I also watch politics - a rigged sport - like old time Bob Luce Pro Wrestling, or Women's Roller Derby.    The Democrats, controlled by the nut-bag Progressive wing of American politics since 1972, and the GOP, run by the Nels Rockefeller-Chuck Percy moderate doormats since the 1960's, is a push-me-pull-you spectacle sport that gets ever more soul-sucking and sad.

Donald Trump is the product of this cynical enterprise.  I believed Candidate Trump to be a gross, loud, boorish and vain man.  I was wrong. That is his shtick and it works. It sucks the oxygen out of the room.

I really believe that President Trump wants to end the Dem-GOP perpetual taffy pull and drain the swamp, pool, or puddle that makes a Daniel Webster want to be convicted along with Jabez Stone.

This wonderful American story is no longer taught in our public schools and far too many of our Catholic schools.

Daniel Webster is an American historical figure, chosen by the poet Stephen Vincent Benet as the core character for his legend the Devil and Daniel Webster.

The Devil, Old Scratch, is a soul-sucking lobbyist, with piles of money at his command.  He lures a New Hampshire son of the soil, who is very down on his luck, Jabez Soul with a contract offering earthly wealth and honors, so long as his soul goes to OLD SCRATCH, Llc. for eternity.

Today, the soul is a secular punchline and laugh button for Bill Maher and latte night TV.

Congressman Daniel Webster, not to be confused with Senators Dick Durbin, Chuck Schumer, Susan Collins, or John McCain, is a rock-ribbed Union Forever American Patriot.  He is no maverick. Webster is no moderate and would never appear on Rachel Maddow, or Sean Hannity.  Webster died and is buried:

Yes, Dan'l Webster's dead−or, at least, they buried him. But every time there's a thunder storm around Marshfield, they say you can hear his rolling voice in the hollows of the sky. And they say that if you go to his grave and speak loud and clear, "Dan'l Webster−Dan'l Webster!"  the ground'll begin to shiver and the trees begin to shake.
And after a while you'll hear a deep voice saying, "Neighbor, how stands the Union?" Then you better answer the Union stands as she stood, rock−bottomed and copper sheathed, one and indivisible, or he's liable to rear right out of the ground. At least, that's what I was told when I was a youngster.

Me too.

Durbin, Collins, Schumer and McCain chirp,  "Neighbor, How's They Polling?"   Maverick up!

They all work together and not for the State of the Union.

Donald Trump wants to change things and change does come easy, unless it is candy-coated in good old American bullshit, like the last eight years of Obama Hope & Change.

Old Scratch has The Union by the throat and is not letting go.  Obama Care is making too many people richer at the expense of everyone else.  Tax reform will never take place as long as 1/3 after a thick retainer means anything.   America will not be allowed to be Great Again, because the global oligarchs are winning.

When Jabez Stone wanted to weasel out of his contract, like any good Yankee Unitarian, Daniel Webster was forced to face a rigged jury of the worst traitors, cut-throats and back-sliders in American history, up to the 114th Congress anyway.  Old Dan'l reminded the louses of their birth on this soil and appealed to their Nativist love of country.    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bXfU2AaJDEQ?list=PLWX-t5q2SkI0xslMuPftjy6mCioqZx_em" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Can't appeal to that anymore.  Faust has no sense of any universal truth - Americans are mavericks, no more Alamo, Valley Forge, or Khe Sahn for New York Times subscribers and listeners and viewers like Angie's List, Prudential, Northwestern Mutual and the Alliance for Climate Change.

Donald Trump is the President of the United States for a now.

I have a feeling that after yesterday's GOP betrayal on Health Care Reform, the traitors in the White House including the new guy, who already leaked to Ryan Lizza about his war on leakers, and  that Old Scratch has real cut-throats and crumbs in the jury box - no lightweights like Benedict Arnold, Edward Teach, or Simon Girty.

GOP is the Swamp: Save Your "Passion and Personal Integrity" Nonsense for an IRS Audit and Repeal ObamaCare
9 GOP senators Trump must watch out for

". . .  it turns out that the GOP-controlled Congress can't seem to pass any meaningful laws at all. Either they have forgotten how, or the divisions in their own increasingly radicalized caucus are proving too difficult to surmount. Whatever the explanation, thus far these GOP legislators are on track to be the least productive group since at least the Civil War.
Now, okay, technically the Ryan-McConnell 115th Congress is so far actually a bit more active than recent Congresses, if you measure by the 43 laws that President Trump has adorned with his garish signature. Obama was at 40 at this point in 2009. George W. Bush had signed even fewer midway through 2001. But sheer number is not the best way to think about how much is being achieved. As The Washington Post's Philip Bump pointed out, a majority of the bills signed by Trump thus far have been one page long, meaning many are just symbolic or ceremonial." The Week

Can't argue with that.  The GOP is and has been a country club for egos with a hoggish appetite for personal gain.  Halliburton did not invent itself. Mind you, the Democrats are far more slavishly addicted to both avarice and pomposity, but they are are loyal - psychotic, obnoxious, goofy and very loyal.

I honor loyalty.

The GOP honors . . . honors . . .sorry nothing comes to mind.

Susan Collins, Rand Paul,  Ted Cruz, Aunt Lindsey Graham, Red-eye John McCain are but a handful of the oafish and preening goofs who care more about themselves than the State of the Nation.  These patrician wannabees smooched Caligula's rump for eight years and now want to gum up the work of draining our national swamp.

I am a Democrat.  There are many like me.  We voted for Trump, because some of us have met Barack Obama and are underwhelmed by him and know the Clintons to be almost as rotten as Dick Durbin, Rahm Emanuel and Richie Daley - almost.

We live in rogue states, like Chicago.

Obama Care is a Ponzi scam that has further enriched the pharmaceutical giants, raised Blue Cross/Blue Shield premiums and eliminated smaller insurance options for most Americans.  The creeps crow that 'more Americans are enrolled!'  Swell.  How about treated? Fewer than 1 in 5 Americans are better off. Do the math.

As a whole, Americans are not better off now than before Obamacare was enacted. It's time for a change. A change toward patient-centered reform that empowers individuals to control their health care dollars and make their own decisions.
Market-based reform would put individuals in charge of their own health care and reward value by creating consumer pressure on providers to increase quality and decrease costs. Reform should be about individual choice, not government mandates.

Not an hour goes by that some GOP Man of Conscience tries to out do the NPR ninny-hoodisms of Susan Collins, as tiresome a virago as Elizabeth Warren.

Conservative, Neo Con, Moderate, or Tea Party Republican - you are there to vote away a national disaster.

I had health care before Obama and will have it after obama care dies. I worked for it and paid for it.

We should take care of those who can't care for them selves. The lazy, that's another question. The

The Democrats controlled both the Senate and the House for Obama's first 2 years.           East Boston Health Center Leads the Way
Last week, the US Senate tried to undo the Affordable Care Act or Obama Care.  This system while it is not perfect and as a matter of fact it is far from the mark, still it provides a safety net for literally millions of Americans who would not otherwise be able to afford any health care. What a sad commentary it is about our country and our leaders that in spite of our leading medical care that thousands of world citizens come here to use and yet for too many Americans, medical insurance still remains out of reach.  As a result, these same Americans are forced to wait – sometimes too long – to take advantage of our medical care that could save their lives. What brings this to mind is that on Monday, US Senator Elizabeth Warren was in East Boston to praise the work of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center. For decades, this health center has been delivering care to many low-income residents who lack insurance but are in need of medical help.  This center has helped thousands to cure a simple disease before it becomes progressively worse and possibly terminal. Given all the rhetoric that is […]

It's Failing: Repeal May Have Stalled, But Obamacare is Still Falling Apart
Republicans on Capitol Hill are split on what, if any, steps should be taken to revive the Obamacare 'repeal and replace' push.  Some want to keep working on various plans that might attract 50 Senate votes as soon as possible.  Others lament that the process is effectively dead.  Still others favor a regular-order bipartisan process, through which compromise legislation could emerge.  That last camp features John McCain, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, all of whom voted with Democrats to kill off a "skinny repeal" bill that leaders promoted as a vehicle to advance the sausage-making to a bicameral conference committee.  The editors of the Wall Street Journal survey the new reality and argue that if Democrats expect Republicans to authorize bailout-style 'stability' funds to keep Obamacare's marketplaces from totally imploding, the GOP must extract some real concessions in exchange:

The Senate GOP’s health failure is a political debacle that will compound for years, and the first predictable fallout is already here: Republicans in Congress are under pressure to bail out the Obama Care exchanges, even as Donald Trump threatens to let them collapse. The GOP needs to get at least some reform in return if it’s going to save Democrats and insurers from their own failed policies...if Mr. Trump and the GOP are going to accept the political pain of rescuing insurers, they ought to get at least some reform in return...

There is a Civil Was that is now going on at the highest levels of America.

The two sides are pitted against one word: Freedom.

This war has been going on from the beginning of time and has reached a Pinnacle with the advent of the Internet.

Slavery is nothing new and it has been going on since the beginning of Man Kind.

Even today we see the slaves coming up on camel to Casablanca and being sold on the open market.

Heck - in Los Angeles another Pedaphile ring was just broken up using young women as Sex Slaves.

As for America between 1618 and 1775 the British imported 500,000 blacks and 300,000 Irish Slaves into north America to work as slaves.

In 1857  in the Dred Scott Decision the US Supreme Court - 7 Democrats and 2 Republicans - ruled Blacks were inferior to Whites and were therefore better off as slaves and Slaves became Property.

It took a huge Civil War to end that ruling.

Six years after the Civil War ended the Supreme Court of Virginia - after the 1871 Incorporation of the United States in the Organic Constitution -  ruled that if you have committed a Felony you became a Slave of the state.

The wording was later changed to “Ward Of The State” but it means the same thing.

So today - the United States is importing huge amounts of Immigrants to act as Slaves in the factories that will be built to reindustrialize America.

Today an immigrant will work for $8.00 an hour with no benefits and put his whole family to work and the father then takes the money and redistributes it as they see fit.

So in order for this to work the elites must eliminate those who demand air wages and would compete with these huge corporations.

That is exactly what is being done.

Just keep in mind:

…a) 13th Amendment Abolish Slavery - 100% Republican Support, 23% Democratic Support

…b) 15th Amendment - Right To Vote:  100% Republican, 0% Democrat

14th Amendment: Free Slaves: 944 Rep, 0% Dems

4) Obama Care: 0% Rep, 86% Dems

Today almost all of Congress and the Senate - they all are n Worshipping, Human Sacrificing Democrats at heart.

Time for some arrests.

You really should read the article.

In other news:

1) 1,800 Tone of Radioactive Waste has An Ocean View And No Place To Go.

Over 890,000 Used Nuclear Rods sit in a containment ponds just South of Los Angeles at the San Orofre Nuclear Plant - which is now closed.

These Nuclear Rods will now have to be care for on a Major Fault Line for the next Million Years.

The last President blocked all attempts to find a permanent place to put them and the New President is trying to locate a permanent Place to house them - 80% of all Used Nuclear Rods in the nation.

The most likely place is in caves under the areas the US blew up over 2,500 Nuclear Weapons - Nevada. You can simply put them there and block the entrance to the caves.

A Second place could be Yucca Mountain, Utah.

Every time a new place is mentioned every Federal and State agency blocks the transfer of these deadly Nuclear Rods.

President Trump has 5 choices:

…a) Leave them there until after a Major Earthquake and let them sink into the ocean. With currents this means the entire Southern Pacific Ocean would be dead in 10 years.

…b) Move them to a permanent storage facility in the South Western US Desert

…c) Hit them with Lighting 15 times through Geoenginerd storms and eliminate their radioactivity.

…d) Use Radionics machines to dissolve the radioactivity

…e) Use Brown’s Gas to neutralize the Used Nuclear Rods.

2) Russia throws out 755 US Diplomats leaving 458 remaining in the Moscow Embassy.

The reason is clear - there was a plot to kill President Putin and his staff and it was traced right back to the US Embassy.

One of the odd things the Russian’s Discovered is when the American’s Left they abandoned a Bio Weapons lab right there in Moscow.

The RNA Samples that were collected were from prominent Russian Citizens were being used to create a Virus to kill Russians.

So - Good Job President Putin. If you had done as GOD asked tyou to do this never would have happened.

The course Congress has recently set, thanks to in part Senator Traitor McCain, is to completely isolate the United States form the rest of the world financially, economically, socially, politically,  and even in all forms of trade.

3) Vaccinated Children Are Sicker hat Unvaccinated Children.

Vaccinated children are:

…a) 2 ½ Times More Likely to have Chronic Illnesses

…b) 4 Times More Likely To Have Autism

…c) 5 Times More Likely To Have Learning Disabilities

…d) 30 Times More Likely To Have Allergies.

4) Finally - The First Human Embryos Were Genetically Modified In US.

Please note that when you read this article this was done with a Chemical - and could be given to full grown adults.

For them to admit it means those in the Underground Complexes have been doing this for over 70 years.

Please pray that congress falls flat on their faces and is neutralized.

Send Love and Gratitude into the Water supply in Washington, DC.

Whatever state you live in - send Love into their water systems so the Governors will authorized the money in their state CAFR be released to pay their State’s bills.

Open each Governor’s eyes as to how much money is really available to him to pay his bills and to begin obeying US laws.

Please also pray that if we do have an economic “Crash” that you and your family take the necessary steps to prepare for all of the planned events.

We The LITTLE People (UN Term) will win - we have over ½ a million people praying every day.

This is a bit off topic... but it does include exemptions from the Obama Care law and treats business differently. Those businesses with less than 50 employees or who has employees working part time are not required to offer health insurance to employees. Why not treat all businesses the same? The reason will be its a financial hardship...but what about the business with 51 employees? Laws alway seem to contain exemptions and what we call -- loopholes or they probably wouldn't pass. http://www.slate.com/articles/business/small_business/2012/07/nfib_is_wrong_on_obamacare_the_aca_should_actually_help_small_business.html

We just lost our Health Insurance at work. The owner say's his bill increased by 50% because the Health Insurance Carriers are getting ready for the changes which will occur with Obama Care. Although I did not use my Health Insurance much, my best friend who also works with me has many heath issues and now she is forced to go to the emergency room because she can't afford the treatments when she gets a bad coughing spell.

Sen Warren Praises Work at EBNHC
By John Lynds Last week, the Democrats had a huge victory as the U.S. Senate failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as “Obama Care.” While there was much to celebrate as several Republicans, like Sen. John McCain, cast votes against the Senate bill to repeal Obama Care, Senate Democrats like Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren say the fight is ongoing, and “Obama Care” is still under attack by many Republicans in the House and Senate. Warren was back in Massachusetts Monday and toured the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, a place that long before “Obama Care,” offered quality health care to people of all ages, races, backgrounds regardless of their ability to pay. Warren toured both the Health Center’s Gove Street and Maverick Street facilities and ended her tour with a roundtable discussion where she heard from health-care providers, patients and partners of EBNHC. “I want to thank Sen. Warren and her team for visiting the Health Center today,” said EBNHC CEO Manny Lopes. “We are so happy about the work she has done to help the lives of individuals that don’t have a voice but also her work to protect the Affordable Care Act and making […]

208: What is The Future of Medicine and Should it Matter to You?

Session 208

We're celebrating 4 years of The Premed Years Podcast! In celebration of this podcast's anniversary, Ryan has shared on previous episodes that he wanted to give away some coaching, mock interview prep, and some other stuff. He will be sending out emails to the lucky winners and to all those who registered, Ryan will be sending a copy of his book as his heartfelt way of thanking you for joining the contest.

In today's episode, Ryan is joined by Allison as they discuss the future of healthcare and what you, as premed students, should be thinking about the future of medicine and how the newly elected President Trump's policies are going to come into play and the role of technology in this ever-changing landscape.

Here are the highlights of the conversation between Ryan and Allison:

On the future of Obama Care, does this matter?

  • People who have acquired insurance because of ObamaCare are at risk of losing that.
  • A lot of the things in our system do not work and the face of healthcare system is changing over and over again anyway.
  • As a premed, stay informed so come prepared during interview in case you get asked about the future of ObamaCare, you get to speak to some degree about it.

Juggling your personal thoughts about politics with those of your patients:

  • Dealing with the amount of anxiety in the last few months because of the nasty election with patients highly opinionated but this is not the focus of health professionals.
  • It's not a wise thing to talk about politics with your patients. It could bias your ability to provide good care if you let your political beliefs interfere with patient care.
  • Behind closed doors, no matter who is paying the bill, it's the relationship with your patient that matters.
  • Look at your patients as individuals that need help.
  • If someone brings it up, just listen and try to move things along.

The future of healthcare in 10 years

  • Hospitals becoming big monsters themselves and everybody getting into big groups.
  • Healthcare has changed a lot looking back and it continues to be a changing landscape.
  • Being a physician is part of your identity so it's not something someone can take away from you.
  • If you're going into this for the right reasons, it doesn't matter what happens.

Technology as another landscape-shifter

  • Be careful of thinking about Radiology as a field right now. We're now at a point where computers and artificial intelligence are going to read X-rays, CT scans, and MRI's.
  • Computers will be by our sides as physicians but medical education will change dramatically.
  • Cadavers are still important for Anatomy
  • Changes in Electronic Medical Records (EMRs)

The future of The Premed Years podcast in the next four years:

  • More help to students
  • More knowledge
  • More books

Comment on Another The Washington Post Story Cast as Anti-Trump “Fake News” by Howard Bice Jr.
I really don't see what Besos, or for that matter Amazon has to gain by alienating one half of it's base by writing this.... pardon my frankness.... crap, but I think they are doing it simply out of blind allegiance (a serious social defect these days) to their political views. I can only guess they think the ENTIRE American public is just plain stupid. But don't take my word for it, just answer a few simple questions for yourself... you know.... THINK... if just for a minute, and ANSWER these questions, if after you do you don't think you should perhaps EXPAND your horizons, and political thought process, I'll subscribe to this rag, but if you find the simple truths and facts just a little differently by the time your done, well maybe you will recognize what the M.S.M. is doing.... or maybe you'll cancel your subscription to this , or any other media that is pushing the same narritives... or better still, just MAYBE... doubtful but MAYBE YOU will start treating D.J.T. like you expected the last president to be.... or ACTUALLY... WAS! QUESTION #1. How did the press cover the Obama Care , or the Tea Party and its RESIST movement compared to the current coverage of everything espousing Trump hate? QUESTION #2. How would the M.S.M. cover D.J.T. if he 'survailed Hillary, or Sanders or Warren or WHOEVER runs for president in 2020, and personally how would YOU FEEL about it? QUESTION #3. Not so simple but sooo logical: Why is it that Prisident Obama was able to engage an ESTABLISHED ENEMY of the United States and hand them BILLIONS of dollars, release foreign operatives that were pursuing NUCLEAR, missile and chemical weapons technologies- and who knows WHAT else, that were not just under investigation, but in many instances on trial AND walked out of jail without informing ANYONE including the Government attorneys trying the cases? AND because there were parts he didn't want ANYONE to know we entered into 'SECRET' international agreements that no one knows exactly what they contain!! Oh if only we could catch or fabricate D.J.T. doing THAT!! All done in order to give Iran the RIGHT to pursue nuclear weapons after a 10 year, essentially un-verifyable, pause in nuclear weapons pursuits ? ANSWERS --- The simple truth and logic... Q1. The fact: We were turning CONTROL of the ENTIRE healthcare system and the right for it to not ONLY controt the future of the healthcare industry (including R.& D., test and procedure allotments, and prescription applications and control, and SO MUCH MORE) but to, by LAW, demand every citizen to purchase a insurance policy from the government or their authorized agents. It also eliminates 17 to 20 percent of the private sector economy, just from the healthcare takeover, not including the destruction of the insurance industry that HAS occurred. Nothing to worry about there right? Try asking yourself how the M.S.M. would be covering D.J.T. and his administration under simular circumstances... kinda obvious ain't it? As for the protests..., We should only validate the hate filled or destructive burn it down type of protests (A.K.A. riots).... they're the forward progressive thinking, enlightened, politically correct... and again strangely, they are covered as ALL THE ABOVE, by the M.S.M. Funny, I guess large peaceful protests should be ignored, ridiculed, scoffed at and hated....right? Seems that was how those that were protesting the A.C.A. were treated...just sayin', Q2. Yeah, that was a dirty trick huh? You know D.J.T. called out Obama for 'TAPPING his precious Trump Tower, which the M.S.M. has been calling him 'nutso' over since last year, although... strangely.... they have used 'survailed' info from, again strangely.... Trump Tower - yeah kinda REALLY 'nutso' eh? - to go after various Trump appointees. As a personal favor, to those suffering from that 'blind allegence' syndrome I mentioned earlier, I won't delve into the 'dark government' question or the moles that have tried to create 3the M.S.M. narrative from inside the government. Gee, if D.J.T. were only a progressive.... you'd just look the other way right? O.K. Q3. Let's get this one over with quick..... no more trick questions.... This is too ... too ..... simple. And it makes the accusations of 'highly classified information' being shared with the Russians absolutely assinine.... if the Washington Post , Bezos, democrats or republicans think Trump sharing info about suicide bombers trying to attack and bring down aircraft (A threat to Russia as much as US or ANY OTHER semi-advanced civilized society) then EVERY ONE OF THEM should have called for Obama's removal a LONG TIME AGO. Again simple truth, fact, or just DUH!! Again... if you can't figure that out see blind allegiance above... I could go on.... I could talk Hillary, the D.N.C., the debate SCANDAL (imagine if Trump would have been handed questions before a debate... primary or not?) and we haven't mentioned e-mails, Bengazi or the C.G.I. How far do you think the M.S.M. would be pursuing President H. Clinton right about now? The reason I've wasted my time writing this is that I studied journalism as a young man in college, and I remember journalistic integrity, I remember the other simple truth, in order to report the truth you SEPERATE your preconceptions from the story, and most importantly you tell EVERY STORY no matter how good or bad FAIRLY, because that is what freedom of the press is all about. I was taught that when the press starts 'taking side's' really BAD THINGS happen, and it puts a lot more than freedom of the press at risk, it threatens all of the rights we ALL HOLD DEAR, not to mention the very nation we ALL hopefully love. I really wonder what it's going g to take to end the treasonous corruption in today's political and journalistic society? I think of Freddy Gary's dad yelling 'Burn it down.... and I worry that someone will start attacking the M.S.M. in much the same manner, maybe we should take a deep breath, sit down and really TALK, things like decorum, respect, and integrity HAVE to matter.... to us all!! O.K. so do I sign up for the Post subscription or do we all decide to show a little more fairness and equality... rather a Democrat named Obama or Republican named Trump?? Peace, HowWeBe
My Fellow Americans Do You Really Want To Find Out?
I have not blogged regularly in a long time. Demanding day job, personal obligations, fed up with politics and blogging burnout compelled me to put my activism aside. Life is busy and something had to give.

But I remain a believer in pursuing a more just economic and social compact. So even in my stupor I’ve phone banked recently and donated some of my salary to President Obama and candidates I truly believe in such as Massachusetts senate candidate Elizabeth Warren and incumbent Ohio senator Sherrod Brown. I do not earn much or have a lot of time but we all have to do what we can.

I am frustrated with the Democratic Party and President Obama but the other side is an atrocity machine. Seven years ago an old college friend who had fallen on hard times took to the Internet to expose truths about corporate malfeasance inspired me to start blogging. She is known in the blogosphere as Breaking Ranks and her recent postings on Daily Kos have inspired me again. Even before Americans witnessed Mitt Romney’s lyingthon in the first presidential debate she skillfully posted a meme about the foolhardiness of electing a lying CEO to be America’s commander and chief.

With respect to the presidency it comes down to the following:

  • Either Mitt Romney truly believes Social Security belongs in the hands of an unregulated Wall Street that created a global economic catastrophe or he does not have the stones to stand up to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
  • Either Mitt Romney truly believes Medicare should be replaced with a voucher system or he does not have the stones to stand up to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
  • Either Mitt Romney truly believes our foreign policy should return to the blustering and blundering that occurred when neocons ruled the day in George W. Bush’s administration or he does not have the stones to stand up to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
  • Either Mitt Romney truly believes 21st century equity capital robber barons like himself who profit off the misery of others when jobs are outsourced deserve even more tax breaks at the expense of the middle-class, working poor and impoverished or he does not have the stones to stand up to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
  • Either Mitt Romney truly disavows the healthcare reform he passed while governor of Massachusetts and served as the template for Obama Care or he does not have the stones to stand up to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
  • Either Mitt Romney truly believes that economic polices that have lowered unemployment and resulted in more Americans contributing payroll taxes to reduce our deficit $207 billion in 2012 should be reversed or he does not have the stones to stand up to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
  • Either Mitt Romney truly believes there should be more justices on the Supreme Court such as Antonio Scalia who believe it’s a “no brainer” to deny women the right to choose and also believes that corporations are entitled to more free speech then people or he does not have the stones to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
  • Either Mitt Romney truly believes global warming is a hoax or he does not have the stones to stand up to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
  • Either Mitt Romney truly believes oil companies such as Exxon and Mobil need to benefit from more corporate welfare at the expense of the middle class, working poor and impoverished or he does not have the stones to stand up to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
  • Either Mitt Romney truly believes there should be no separation between church and state or he does not have the stones to stand up to a crazy Republican Party that does. Do you really want to find out?
That’s it in a nutshell. I’m sure many of you reading this can come up with a far better list than what I posted above.

With respect to down ticket races I would remind my fellow citizens that Republicans deliberately executed a strategy to slow the economic recovery in order to blame President Obama and the Democrats while simultaneously challenging his patriotism. Hence voting for the Republican Party is tantamount to rewarding bad behavior.

These are not people who can be trusted with power as they have repeatedly demonstrated. You saw that during the Bush years. And only last year they held America’s fiscal solvency and credit worthiness hostage to their Ayn Rand cult fetish. Do you really want to find out what they would do with a rubber stamp named Mitt Romney?

Obama and the Democrats have certainly not batted a 1.000. I have my own disagreements with the administration and Democratic Party on both domestic and foreign policy. I’m sure many of you have as well. But as Joe Biden put it in the recent Vice Presidential debate, “folks trust your instincts.”

Under President Obama, Osama Bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive. My fellow Americans I do not want to find out who will be dead or alive if we turn the White House keys over to Mitt Romney. I hope you don’t either.

The Fall of the American Empire
The Connection between Torture, Wall Street Bank Profits and Our Descent into Poverty We who are watching President Obama carefully observe that he has betrayed us. For unknown, hopefully innocent and unknowing reasons, he has chosen an economic policy based on a massive falsehood, and advisors who have enabled Wall Street Banks to earn rich […]
Sarah Palin First Tea Party President
The 2016 Elections is off to a early start. Some people feel that the building block for the Tea Party Independent Forum within the Independent Voting Floor will separate the power of the Republican Party. I am sorry but this is not true. The Foundation of this forum is to bring in new officials as well as a Independent Tea Party Officials. As States move to file for Independence and to form their own Government, this is by all mean a mistake, The Separation of the States will break the Foundation Of The Constitution. Then the United Nations will be in a far better position to apply their New World Order Laws.
It would seem, that most people are concerned about the economy and other issues, people are in dis-trust of Officials in Government from both parties. There are some of us who feel it is time for the Tea Party to take its right-full place in office under the Independent Forum.

I am sorry but most people feel its time to vote out those who did not do their job and vote in new people with no political connections. This political battle for a seat to control a power that is not real, its the Voice Of the People that is the power and the posting of, Under The Cover Of Winter Storm Nemo, this posting does not hold all the information you seek, but I can tell you this that a data search for Political Official who hide their money investments over-seas in Pharmaceutical Narcotics. You may say so what....then why hide the money....?
No my friends this will not separate nothing at all because as time goes forward we are being lost in a connection of United We Stand.
. No matter how many seats get controlled, the job of the balance of the Fiscal Cliff, has not been done, and in the last 11 years over $109 trillion Dollars spent, and according to Officials on TV they only bring in $3 trillion per year...that around $76 trillion spent....so where is the money..? I can show you but not now....

In The Depths Of The Summit: What I Learned At This Year’s ‘Values Voter’ Confab
Rob Boston
Lost weekend: What I learned at the Values Voter Summit

I spent Friday and Saturday observing the Values Voter Summit (VVS), an annual Religious Right gathering in Washington, D.C., sponsored by the Family Research Council, the American Family Association, the Heritage Foundation, Liberty University and other groups.

I attend every year. It’s educational! Here are some things I learned this year:

Radical Muslims are coming to get your mom. U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) laid it all out for us: A super-secret entity called the Organization for Islamic Cooperation is soon going to impose an “Islamic enforced speech code” on America. Anyone who dares to criticize Islam is going straight to the pokey, First Amendment be damned. Of course President Barack Obama is in this thing up to his ears. “You would think this is a novel you’re reading, not reality!” Bachmann gushed. Come to think of it, it is like a novel – a really bad science fiction novel.

There’s a big monument in Massachusetts that proves the United States is a Christian nation. Has-been TV star Kirk Cameron laid it out – in mind-numbing detail. The monument in question is the National Monument to the Forefathers in Plymouth, Mass., and it was dedicated in 1889. Exactly how a monument built in the latter half of the 19th century proves we’re a Christian nation is beyond me, but I’ll admit I didn’t follow all of Kirk’s arguments – it was pretty early in the morning, after all.

When you’re explaining to people why the United States is a Christian nation, it’s best to use costumes. The Rev. Dan Fisher, a Baptist pastor from Oklahoma, showed attendees of a church politicking breakout session a photo of himself dressed as John Peter Muhlenberg, a colonial-era pastor. One day in 1776, Muhlenberg, as the story goes, shocked his Virginia congregation by casting aside his clerical robe to reveal a military uniform underneath. He then announced his intention to kick some major British behind, and like 300 dudes signed up right on the spot to go with him. It was so cool! Unfortunately for Fisher, the story, which didn’t start circulating until long after Muhlenberg’s death, is considered by historians to be a myth. Still, Fisher should keep the outfit. Halloween will be here soon.

If you are a young man and want to protest same-sex marriage, the preferred outfit is a blue blazer, gray trousers, a cheap red cape made of polyester and a large broach. This was the get-up of the members of the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property, who exhibited at the Summit. They are ultra-Catholics who pine for the days when Catholic kings ruled the West. I am not making this up.

President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society led to pre-marital sex. This assertion came from Star Parker, a frequently incoherent (and often just plain unpleasant) woman who makes her living attacking government programs that help people in need. Parker opened her speech with a plea for the safe return of her friend’s expensive gold watch, which she mistakenly left in a hotel bathroom. It’s believed that LBJ might have taken it.

President Barack Obama cares more about lizards than people. U.S. Senate candidate Ted Cruz from Texas asserted that Obama tried to block oil drilling in Texas by declaring a rare lizard endangered. It’s the kind of story this “big gummit”-hating crowd loves because it proves how the tree huggers elevate reptiles over people. The fact that it’s not true is no huge deal.

It’s OK to tell big, honking lies even if you are the nation’s “virtues czar.” Former Education Secretary and Book of Virtues author William Bennett rewrote the events of last week in Libya. According to Bennett’s version, Obama dithered while Mitt Romney boldly and decisively stood up for America. What about Obama’s vow to bring the murderers to justice and Romney’s statement based on inaccurate information that even many Republicans thought was crass? In the world of the virtue czar, that apparently never happened.

There’s a war against chicken sandwiches. U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) claimed that the Chick-fil-A fast food chain is facing “government force” over its anti-gay views. Actually, it is facing a consumer boycott, which is quite a different thing entirely. DeMint ought to chat with the boycott-happy Don Wildmon of the American Family Association to learn the difference.

This is the most important election in the history of the universe. At least a dozen speakers said that the 2012 election is the most important ever, with the very survival of the United States and the fate of Western Civilization hanging in the balance. This is in no way diluted by the fact that VVS speakers say this every election year.

It may be entertaining to poke some fun at the Summit, but the nightmarish theocracy these people are trying to create is anything but funny. To get the full scoop, be sure to read my full report on the VVS in the October issue of Church & State, which will be online soon.

P.S. Today is Constitution Day. Take a minute to celebrate that document and reaffirm your commitment to protecting it. Remember, there are people who want to shred the Constitution. I spent time with some of them this weekend.

Phase outs of personal exemptions and itemized deductions are back so as taxable income increases, these items get reduced, thus increasing taxable income 2.           Update 4/19: Marsha Blackburn to the Rescue; Update 3/24: Even Bill Clinton is Against It; Hurry, Somebody Call Al Gore!

Did Al Gore give his permission for the USA to hand over the internet to the United Nations?

Media Matters says that Fox News Channel is lying about Mr.Obama giving away the internet. Unfortunately, that's not true (but what else should we expect from Media Matters?).  I've been reading the same kind of information FNC is reporting on Politico, at The Heritage Foundation website and at the Wall Street Journal online.

At the present time, a non-profit organization called the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is overseeing the internet in accordance with a contract with the US Commerce Department.  This is about to change when the USA hands over control of the internet to the United Nations in September 2015.

This can't be good.  Here's a little blurb from the Heritage article:
Challenges to the Status Quo Governance.  Despite great success, there are serious challenges to the way the Internet is currently governed. Specifically, authoritarian nations wish to implement changes to make the Internet subject to more control and oversight by government. To achieve this goal, these nations have attempted to use various U.N. bodies that are directly controlled by governments, most notably the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), to regulate the Internet.
This article says,..."The ITU ultimately serves the majority of nations which do not want a free and open Internet..."

and this...
Revelations by Edward Snowden have only contributed to this trend toward international governance. In October 2013, various Internet stakeholders met in Uruguay and issued the Montevideo Statement, which called for “an environment in which all stakeholders, including all governments, participate on an equal footing.”  This is concerning: ICANN has been gaining independence from the U.S. government since its inception, but the Montevideo Statement would reverse this trend with a twist—government oversight would be strengthened—but with 193 governments, not just the U.S., looking over ICANN’s shoulder.
International Internet Idealism vs. Internet Freedom. Broadening international governance of the Internet may sound like a fair and appropriate course of action. But such a path will allow bad actors to greatly constrain human rights and freedoms. The irony of the Montevideo Statement is that, in trying to combat balkanization of the Internet and Internet surveillance, it makes ICANN more vulnerable to autocratic and despotic regimes, which use broad and repressive censorship and surveillance programs.
Here's a little blurb from the Wall Street Journal article:
The action had been debated among technologists and policy makers, but the prospect of the U.S. relinquishing control concerns some businesses because of the potential for censorship."If you hand over domain-name registration to someone who doesn't want certain classes of domains registered, then you're setting up a censorship structure," said Bill Reinsch, president of the National Foreign Trade Council, which represents businesses.  In recent years U.S. policy makers have pushed back against calls from nations including China and Russia for the U.N. and ITU to have a greater role in overseeing the structure of the Web. U.S. officials have previously argued that such an arrangement would lead to the repression of free speech and the Balkanization of the Internet.
Just the mention of China and Russia having a say in the internet sends "censorship" chills down my spine.

Does the following make you feel any better?
According to Larry Strickling, administrator for the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration the new governance model must ensure that Icann is free from government influence. The plan must also fulfill several other conditions, such as preserving the security and stability of the Internet while keeping it open and free from censorship.
I didn't think so.

This issue has been on the table for a long time.  According to some of the articles, the US has fought back against giving away control of the internet, but apparently the Obama Administration isn't too worried about it.  Can he really be so naive or is this just one more way to knock down the influence of the United States in the world?  I think it's the latter.  I'm betting this is just one more item checked off Mr. Obama's bucket list.

UPDATE 3/24:

Former President Bill Clinton is against the handing over the the internet by the US.  I doubt Mr. Obama cares about Mr. Clinton's opinion.  I wonder if Mrs. Clinton will put her 2 cents in on the matter.

Bill Clinton Opposes Internationalizing Internet Control

UPDATE 4/19:

Hopefully, this puts an end to the internet give-away:

What Obama care means to your family's health
Even in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s affirmation of its Constitutionality, The Af-fordable Healthcare Act of 2010, much better known as “Obamacare,” remains misunders-tood, sometimes maligned and often mysterious. Recent polls by both CNN and the Kaiser Foundation revealed that the majority of poll respondents did not know precisely what bene-fits they receive as plan provisions take effect between 2012 and 2014. Pollsters reported, “Many people asked us, ‘What, exactly, do we get?’”

Highlights of the Affordable Healthcare Act of 2010

Although the legislation eventually stretched to several thousand pages, its highlights are fairly simple and straightforward. The Affordable Healthcare Act provides…

Dramatically improved coverage for children

The Affordable Healthcare Act is especially kind and generous to children. It includes unprecedented support for new parents, providing them with everyday supplies, counseling connections, and links to all kinds of low-cost care. The new law eliminates fees and co-pays for routine “well-baby” doctors’ office visits, and it provides no-cost vision and hearing exams, immunizations and developmental screenings. The law mandates coverage for children with pre-existing conditions including leukemia, diabetes and birth defects. It also substantially increases coverage and benefits for children suffering chronic diseases, especially asthma and Type I diabetes.

Obama care means to your family's health

Preventive and diagnostic care for the whole family

Among the fundamental tenets in the Affordable Healthcare Act, the importance of timely and proper preventive care especially stands out. Glen White stresses, “Preventive visits drastically reduce healthcare costs for everyone by catching potentially serious injuries and diseases before they require lengthy hospital stays or expensive treatments. As the cost both of hospital stays and certain treat-ments continues to rise faster than the rate of inflation, insurance companies pass them on to families like yours in the form of higher premiums and co-pays.” The new plan provides for all kinds of diagnostic tests, especially including mammograms and colonoscopies at no cost to patients.

Tougher regulations on cancellations, exclusions and other questionable practic-es

In the past, insurance companies frequently screened applications for “errors,” us-ing them to deny coverage or payment when patients became seriously ill. Patients with pre-existing conditions, of course, were automatically denied coverage, and insurance carriers frequently found questionable reasons for refusing coverage for ostensibly eligible poli-cyholders. The new law prohibits those practices and outlines substantial penalties for com-panies that persist in unscrupulous eligibility and payment schemes.

Better protection for “big kids,” early retirees, and Medicare seniors

In the past, most major health insurance carriers dropped “children” from their parents’ plans when they reached age 19. The new system requires them to continue coverage up to age 26 even if adult children do not live with their parents, are not financially dependent on their parents or are married. This new provision has special value for college students who regularly need immunization, authorization for college sports, and treatment for stress-related illnesses. The new system also extends health benefits for people who retire between ages 55 and 65 and lose their employers’ benefits before they become eligible to receive Medicare benefits. The law establishes a $5 billion fund to support employer-based coverage for early retirees. Perhaps most importantly, the new system provides prescription drug benefits for Medicare seniors who reach the routine coverage limit but have not reached the threshold of catastrophic care; the plan plugs the so-called “donut hole.” Eligible seniors receive brand-name prescription drugs at substantially reduced costs and generics at rock-bottom prices.

Elimination of coverage limits

The Affordable Healthcare Act prohibits insurance companies’ imposition of lifetime dollar limits on essential health services, especially hospital care and rehabilitation. Federal government officials explain, “Under the new law, insurance companies’ use of annual dollar limits on the amount of insurance coverage a patient may receive is restricted for new plans in the individual market and all group plans.” In 2014, a ban on all annual limits takes effect and covers all new plans in all markets.

Find reliable information online

The law also made extensive provision for public information services, especially websites devoted to detailed, accurate information written in plain English and linked to authoritative legal and medical sites. For a quick, readable summary of the law and its benefits for hard-working American families, go to www.healthcare.gov.

Getting Rid Of All That Stuff (And Call Your Senators!!)
Folks, before I ramble on with you about my decluttering journey, I need to encourage you to call your Senators, and do it now!  A small working group in the Senate has been working pivately and in secret (away even from other Republicans) on a pan that they refuse to share with anyone. No matter HOW you feel about health care, or needed changes to Obama care, secrecy is, put simply, unamerican. And one cannot but help to believe that anything requiring such secrecy must be dangerous and unpopular (like putting 23 million people on the street with no health care).  Please call your democratic senators as well-if only to give them encouragement and know that they are being heard.

And second, for those of you living in Republican districts, if you are unhappy about your respresentation, this summer is the time to get active for next year. In Colorado, we have one congressman that will almost surely lose his seat next year and a Senator that's on the downhill, but doesn't even know it yet, I expect!  Back to decluttering and frugality and...

On Wednesday, I'll be joining some other bloggers and sharing my summer "bucket list", and I'm so looking forward to joining with others on this summer journey. Meanwhile, I am doing my best to check up on those spring goals. Some done, some not done, unsurprisingly.

One of my less than done goals (great phraseology there!), is the streamlining of my bedroom and studio. As I mentioned on another post, I have arrived at what I call the "storm before the calm" in my downsizing process.  In other words, I've pulled stuff out of the closets, but much of it remains unsorted. I would not dare to share a picture with you at this point! !!!  Added to that disorganization is the fact that my bedroom is almost always the "staging area" for any kind of work in the house and you can understand why I am ready for this room to be done (my room is much larger than any other room in the house-it even has room for a sitting area if I ever break down and actually decorate my sleeping space).

You'd think this would be easy. I mean really!!  I'm mainly not a "keeper" and I was raised by non-keeper types. My parents traveled the world with us. But the only souvenirs were one of a kind art or sculpture or pretty things that were "to be used" (think monkey pod salad bowls, delft china hot pads). I mean they certainly had their wedding china, and other traditional "stuff". But four children divided up and disposed of a retirement condo in four days and I can count on my hands the things I have from  that house (marble eggs, china...). My daughter came over before I moved to Colorado and announced that the Lladro statue, and three or four other family things were hers and she was taking them. I was perfectly fine with that.

So what's my problem?  What to DO with all that stuff you don't want or need. Oh sure, some of it's easy. Take some pictures of my various Vera Bradley bags and earn enough to buy a large purse that can also act as a brief case (meaning it's a nice purse, but big enough to hold file folders).  And some of my stuff like partially used craft remnants, can be donated to my homeless women for crafting.

Unfortunately, everything is not that simple. And while I may end up with no alternative, I am trying to avoid the Goodwill/trash/family options.  It's my sustainability gene kicking in I guess. Goodwill does good work, don't get me wrong. But they also flood overseas countries with their excess goods.  Obviously I would like to avoid the trash as much as possible. And with a few exceptions, my kids do not necessarily want my stuff.

This of course is unsurprising, and I expect I am not alone in this.  In fact, there's a new book out, entitled Downsizing the Family Home, What to Save, What to Let Go.  Now, let me say here that I am not offended by my kids not keeping things that may have emotional meaning to me.  I want them to have things that have emotional meaning to THEM. I also (and this is an issue that I know many boomers struggle with), have no issue if they use something in a different way than I would. My general feeling about life, wether it is someting I have made or give on an inheritance passed on is that once given, it is no longer yours.

Up to now, my solution  to disposition of family stuff has been simple.  I ask them.  What do you want. Do you think you want this?  And occasionally when it comes to things I am using, the question is different. Do you THINK either of you will want my polish pottery place settings? For me at least, asking this questions clarifies the downsizing process. It also encourages commnication among my offspring-although to date the only disagreemet of any kind has been with regards to memorabilia items and easily resolved.

As for the rest, even if I don't want it, I would rather not see it in Africa, or in a land fill. And with a few exceptions, I'm more interested in having this gone, than receiving any kind of money. A garage sale is probably not in my future. Good crafting stuff has temporarily gone into the "Can I use it to make an item and then sell it pile", and the purses have been sold. Other than that?  I've listed outgrown clothing in lots on my local Facebook swap page.  The craft stuff that could be used by not by me goes to a shelter for crafting. My old day planners (the leather ones), also on the swap page. A few old clothes cut into rags and some sweaters cut to upcycle with.  And so it goes.

And now, time to work instead of write. And maybe I can find my way to bed in the dark once again.

          What I Fear

Last night as I watched the results of the presidential election, I felt a type of fear I have never had before. I have been through some terrifying situations in my medical journey but nothing comes close to this and I realized that it is because I fear for more than just myself. I fear for my family and friends. I fear for their lives and their basic human rights being taken away.

Let me start with my fear for those, like myself are medically fragile. I fear of what will happen to those who have pre-existing conditions if Obama Care is repealed. I fear that insurance companies will be allowed to refuse care to families because of their medically complex children. I worry that if Obama Care is repealed, Life Time Spending Caps will be allowed once more for people with chronic illnesses. I worry that people like myself will no longer be able to stay on their parents’ health insurance plan until they’re 26 years old. How will people pay for medicine? How will they pay for medical supplies like oxygen, feeding tubes, trachs, vents and wheelchairs? What will they do about paying for the much needed doctor appointments and tests? Lives are in danger…

People keep saying, “He’s just the president. There are checks and balances in place!” I’d also like to remind people that it isn’t just the President and his decisions I’m scared of. Now that America has made it acceptable to be openly racist, sexist, Islamophobic, prejudice, Homophobic, mock the disabled and hateful – what will his followers feel like they can do and get away with to the marginalized and minorities?

Last night, I called my brother who is a black gay man. I called him, in tears, for him. I left him a message, telling him that I love him, that I’m sorry that so many people voted for a man who clearly hates him and that I hope he is safe today and the next four years in this country.

My sister, who is from Haiti, my mom and I all stood in the kitchen last night crying, I told my mom, “I now have a better understanding of the dread that the Jewish people must’ve felt as they watched Hitler rise to power – or how the Japanese-Americans felt during WWII.” I am terrified of how people will treat my black siblings. I dread the racial slurs and “Get out of MY country!” that my Mexican-American sister and two nieces will no doubt hear. I fear for all my sisters and female friends and what will happen to their rights and safety now that a man who has openly bragged about sexual assault is President. I am scared of hate crimes against my gay brother. I am scared for my medically complex sister, friends and myself. I am terrified for how the disabled will be treated, including my niece, sister and myself.

Those who shout “All Lives Matter!” while voting for a man like Donald Trump (who has shown true hatred, contempt and prejudice so many groups of people) don’t really believe all lives matter. You don’t think women’s lives, black lives, Hispanic lives, Muslim lives, Syrian Refugee lives, disabled lives, medically fragile lives, LGBTQ lives matter. You proved that in how you voted. You no longer have the right or the platform to stand on and shout this sentiment when you voted against all of these people.

Now more than ever, we need Hope and Love,

          By: Rusty Bryson
And who do you think is going to pay for this. Don,t think for a minute that when the insurance companies have to pay the med. bills that they won,t raise the cost of insurance. We are going to pay and pay dearly. That is why the politicians don,t want to be included in the Obama care package. You pay based on what you earn. They make to much for a break so they will pay twice what they were paying and have less benefits just like the rest of the middle class. Mr. B

Are Anti Psychotic Drugs Causing Psychotic Behavior?
Am I the only one that is concerned that some of the new psychotropic drugs are the culprit behind the psychotic behavior?  What I really believe is the there is a God and there is a Devil and that the devil is finding more and more ways to cut us off from God.  I believe in infestation, oppression and yes, even possession although I think that is somewhat rare.

I am  not saying I think these shooters are possessed.  I am not saying they weren't.  What I am saying is that perhaps their "illness" was actually demonic oppression brought on by psychotropic drugs.  If you do not believe in God or the devil then let me say that I think that psychotropic drugs are creating chemical changes to the body that create physiological changes in the body that make concrete abstract reasoning difficult if not impossible making the person susceptible to suggestion or worse, likely to become aggressive or violent towards themselves and or others.

Either way, someone needs to ask for an independent review of these "medications" to assess whether or not they attributed in any way to the latest massacres.

List of persons taking psychiatric drugs that became murderers;

Eric Harris age 17 (first on Zoloft then Luvox) and Dylan Klebold aged 18 (Colombine school shooting in Littleton, Colorado), killed 12 students and 1 teacher, and wounded 23 others, before killing themselves. Klebold’s medical records have never been made available to the public.

Kevin Rider, age 14, was withdrawing from Prozac when he died from a gunshot wound to his head. Initially it was ruled a suicide, but two years later, the investigation into his death was opened as a possible homicide. The prime suspect, also age 14, had been taking Zoloft and other SSRI antidepressants.
Alex Kim, age 13, hung himself shortly after his Lexapro prescription had been doubled.
Diane Routhier was prescribed Welbutrin for gallstone problems. Six days later, after suffering many adverse effects of the drug, she shot herself.

Kara Jaye Anne Fuller-Otter, age 12, was on Paxil when she hung herself from a hook in her closet. Kara’s parents said “…. the damn doctor wouldn’t take her off it and I asked him to when we went in on the second visit. I told him I thought she was having some sort of reaction to Paxil…”)
Gareth Christian, Vancouver, age 18, was on Paxil when he committed suicide in 2002,
(Gareth’s father could not accept his son’s death and killed himself.)
Julie Woodward, age 17, was on Zoloft when she hung herself in her family’s detached garage.

Woody ____, age 37, committed suicide while in his 5th week of taking Zoloft. Shortly before his death his physician suggested doubling the dose of the drug. He had seen his physician only for insomnia. He had never been depressed, nor did he have any history of any mental illness symptoms.
A boy from Houston, age 10, shot and killed his father after his Prozac dosage was increased.
Hammad Memon, age 15, shot and killed a fellow middle school student. He had been diagnosed with ADHD and depression and was taking Zoloft and “other drugs for the conditions.”
Matti Saari, a 22-year-old culinary student, shot and killed 9 students and a teacher, and wounded another student, before killing himself. Saari was taking an SSRI and a benzodiazapine.
Steven Kazmierczak, age 27, shot and killed five people and wounded 21 others before killing himself in a Northern Illinois University auditorium. According to his girlfriend, he had recently been taking Prozac, Xanax and Ambien. Toxicology results showed that he still had trace amounts of Xanax in his system.
Finnish gunman Pekka-Eric Auvinen, age 18, had been taking antidepressants before he killed eight people and wounded a dozen more at Jokela High School – then he committed suicide.
Asa Coon from Cleveland, age 14, shot and wounded four before taking his own life. Court records show Coon was on Trazodone.
Jon Romano, age 16, on medication for depression, fired a shotgun at a teacher in his
New York high school.

The pharmaceutical industry makes;

$ 171,000 A MINUTE

Want more info? Check this out.

Why is the media failing to even mention this connection? Because the Pharmaceutical companies are very powerful and make trillions of dollars a year selling us their newest and latest creation to "help" us manage the ever growing list of illness, disorder or problems that people are developing over the past 50 years.   In fact they seem to work hand in hand with Doctors and some have even said there seems to be a conflict here.

Im not the only one making these links check this out: PRESCRIPTION DRUGS ARE CONNECTED TO SHOOTINGS

You don't mess with these giants.  They have board members on the FDA committees guaranteeing their products are approved and they are some of the most powerful lobbyists in government.  Its the same reason it took so long for people to uncover the studies that proved cigarettes caused cancer or that the companies dumping chemicals in the rivers were causing cancer in local communities.  The money is powerful and the drugs we are willingly taking are turning us into mindless puppets.
Goni Montes

"Every time you see a commercial for a new drug, with all its supposed benefits – and its long list of potential side effects – you can be grateful to the extensive lobbying efforts of America’s pharmaceutical industry."

We are becoming a culture obsessed with taking medication.  It never used to be this way.  All you have to do is turn your television on and see how the commercials have changed from kids singing they are "stuck on bandaids cause bandaids stuck on me" or "my bologna has a first name it's O-S-C-A-R" to being told we should take this or that pill for our neck pain, joint pain, depression and the like.  Why are we being fed more and more medications?  Why don't people care that the side effects are worse than the original ailment?  I have seen commercials for medication that helps people with joint pain state that the side effects include internal bleeding, liver failure, even death.  Remember, the original ailment was joint pain.

Why are some of these drugs being handed out so quickly without years of studies to make sure they are safe?  It used to be that we would have to wait years for something to get approved.  Not anymore, some of the flu vaccines we are giving our infant children were created a week ago.  We have no idea in the long term, what the ramifications are or will be to giving our kids these "vaccines".  There is just no way to know yet.  But I promise you, any new childhood leukemia's or cancers or autistic spectrum disorders will absolutely NOT be associated with these toxins we inject directly into the blood stream along with 4 other injections of other toxins all at the same time.  No, crib deaths in these children are not in any way from the toxins we are putting into their tiny bodies.  Am I really the only person out there saying this just is not logical? We are giving our kids more and more of these drugs and more and more of our kids are getting rare cancers.  So much so that now their are barbie dolls with no hair, for the kids with cancer.

Why is no one asking the question; "What pharmaceutical drugs were these men on when they did these horrific crimes?"  We should be asking this question because we know for a fact that psychotropic drugs are linked to aggression, visions, nightmares, suicide and more.  We know that some psychotropic drugs for depression actually became a catalyst for some to take their own lives.  Ironic isn't it? That you could be taking Prozac for depression and then have the side effect be suicidal tendencies in "some" people.

It is not my opinion that psychotropic drugs are altering our brain chemistry and subverting our wills and opening us to demonic forces ( or for those of you that do not believe in this lets call it aggressive or violent behavior).

There are scientific studies proving this.  They do not call it demonic, that is just my terminology, but they do say this:

"She felt hopeless and alone. It seemed that all she could do was to follow a thought that had been planted in her brain from some alien force. She suddenly decided she should go and throw herself in front of a car, that this was the only answer."
Why does one person say a thought was "planted in her brain by an alien force"?  Another woman says this:

"There was a strong feeling that while on the drug that in some way she was being controlled and that suicide might happen."

Why does this woman say she felt she was being controlled?  Check out this article in the Guardian to see the research that Britain has done to prove that Prozac and other anti-depressants in the same class (like Zoloft) is creating nightmares, suicidal tendencies, visions, and paranoia as well as causing some of the patients to commit suicide or even murder.

Read an excerpt here from THE GUARDIAN:

But while the happy drug works for many people, in a significant number it can take them to the edge of despair. The study, conducted by David Healy, director of the North Wales Department of Psychological Medicine, reveals the real dangers for some of the SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), as Prozac and its imitators are called.

It found that two out of 20 healthy volunteers on an antidepressant in the Prozac class called Lustral (or Zoloft in the USA) became dangerously suicidal, compared with none of them when they were put on an antidepressant of a different class called reboxetine.

One 30-year-old woman who took part had a nightmare about having her throat slit after one week and by the end of a fortnight, was suicidal. "She felt hopeless and alone. It seemed that all she could do was to follow a thought that had been planted in her brain from some alien force. She suddenly decided she should go and throw herself in front of a car, that this was the only answer.

"It was as if there was nothing out there apart from the car, which she was going to throw herself under. She didn't think of her partner or child," says the study, published in the journal Primary Care Psychiatry.
Later she completed a diary entry, describing herself as jumpy, anxious and suspicious. "Her mind was racing and spiralling out of control. Then it went blank except for the clear thought that she must kill herself violently by throwing herself beneath a car or a train."

The use of drugs to create altered states is not new thinking.  Many occultists have used drugs to induce altered states so as to "connect" with "beings" from other dimensions.  One example is Aleister Crowley.  It would make sense that as embodied spirits (that would be us) if you alter our bodies (altering our brain chemistry) it would alter us spiritually.

Why should we care? Because we are subverting our will. Our will is what separates us from animals.  The bible warns against drunkenness and hypnosis.  Why? Because it is dangerous for us to subvert our wills.  Our will protects us.  As we move through this world, the senses of our bodies takes in information and then our our reasoning and decision making allows us to make choices and then act upon the information in a particular way.  If our will is removed then we can not protect ourselves, we open ourselves and now, without reasoning we may be acting in ways that are contrary to our conscience.   This is dangerous.  We see it with these men that have murdered other human beings while under the effects of these drugs.

Jared Loughner actually was quite normal and very smart according to his friends. But then people around him said he started taking some drugs and his personality changed.  They said they could tell he wasn't drunk or high but yet he was not at all the Jared they grew up with.  Jared told many people that he believed he was being mind controlled.  Jared was a United States Military recruit.  He kept many journals and in his journals he said that the military was trying to control his mind.  He even had websites showing how a "handler" is able to effect mind control.  He definitely believed the government was trying to brainwash him and in fact, the entire population.  Was he just crazy or did the drugs create this effect?

Jared was affiliated with a satanic organization that had ties to the drug cartels.  How? The church was led by an ex-catholic priest by the name of David Romo. Drug Lord Oseil Cardenas attended this satanic church.  There are more details on the website here.

Drug Lord Oseil Cardenas and most of the drug cartel, believe the rituals perfumed there protect their business.  David Romo was arrested 3 days prior to the Jared Loughner shooting in Arizona.   The judge sitting on this case as well as many of the cases dealing with the drug cartel  was Judge John Roll.  Representative Gifford was also an instrumental person in destroying the drug cartel's ability to smuggle drugs over the border and had in just days prior to the shooting worked with the National Guard to set up further patrols on the boarder.

Is it a coincidence that both of these persons were shot by a man affiliated with an organization that had threatened them both for quite some time and that Jared was begging for help from those around him saying that he believed he was being mind controlled? I don't know the answer to that, I am just asking a question because no one else seems to think we should be asking questions.

As for the other men that have performed such horrific crimes, we see a huge change in them as well.  They go from looking almost normal to looking like they are possessed by something.    We should point out that James' father is supposedly linked to the banking industry and so is the Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza's dad.  Check out the following website to see how it seems there might be another connection between these two besides the fact the boys were on psychotropic drugs to control their "mental illness".

I do not know why no one is asking about the drugs used by these boys, but someone should be.  The pharmaceutical industry should be held accountable if the drugs they are selling to the public (and will now have Obama Care to help them make even more money) are safe for use.  Shouldn't they?

My next blog will be on the effects that gaming is having on the male brain.  Did you know that the correlation between violent video games and boys becoming violent is so high that it can no longer be considered a coincidence? I will show you in my next blogpost.

School Scope: Health Care - Educating People Honestly is First Step to Reform
By Norm Scott

If you are looking for commentary on education let me remind you this is summer vacation for most ed news, other than to say that the de Blasio/Farina operation of the schools is not as different from BloomKlein. One of the big stories this week was the Susan Edelman expose in the NY Post of the scandals in the principal training Leadership Academy, which spawned our very own Marcella Sills. http://nypost.com/2017/07/29/doe-lost-track-of-101m-given-to-leadership-coaches-audit.

I compare the NYC Leadership Academy training to the Nazi SS - where there are stories that they would give a new recruit a dog when they arrived, allow them to bond, and then order them to kill the dog to complete their training. All too many Lead Acad grads act like they’ve emerged from that type of trauma and feel free to engage in vicious, sadistic behavior.

But let’s get back to an equally vicious and sadistic topic. Health care as a follow-up to last week’s column (School Scope: Why Not Medicare for All?) where I talked about single payer around the world with an emphasis on how health stats in Rwanda may one day, if Republicans remain ascendant, may soon surpass ours.

There has been increasing serious media attention (as opposed to mocking commentary) related to Bernie Sanders bringing up a single payer bill, an idea he was ridiculed for a year ago. It is clear there are problems with Obama Care, many of them exaggerated by eight years of Republican attempts to go back to the pre-Obamacare good old days of death panels. The criticisms of Obamacare from both left and right go deep but come at the issue from two entirely different directions.

One of the attacks on Obama was based on his false promise that people could keep their plans. Seven years ago I was tossed out of my UFT plan and into Medicare by law as I joined everyone who turns 65 . I didn’t cry, as Medicare just happens to be one of the most popular government run programs.

I keep repeating that my wife who worked in billing for a major hospital and dealt with every insurance company maintained that Medicare, staffed with career professionals (as opposed to the often revolving door employees in private insurance) was also the most efficient and well-run. I would say this was one of the biggest issues in former Obama voters moving to Trump.  Goodness, is it possible that the big, bad government which comes under attack by so many can out perform privately run operations?

Boys and girls there is a solution, even if a temporary one to stabilize the market while we work to expand Medicare down to younger people. (Bernie suggests we move people who are 55 into Medicare as a first step.)

Obama abandoned the offer of a public option very quickly to appease the insurance companies who didn’t want to compete with the government. (He also ignored please control drug costs to keep big pharm on board). With so many insurance companies abandoning the market at this time, the biggest immediate fix to Obamacare would be to add a government option in every area that is left with few options or none. I find it funny how all the people who believe in competition don’t want the government to compete with private insurance plans.

Now I want to be clear. In a single payer system everyone would be tossed out of their plan and into the same plan. This would be huuuuge and of course disrupting as even employer based plans would end. Some argue that industry offers these plans as a way to lure workers. And many workers make job choices based on health care. By taking the burden of health care off the table, as would happen in single payer, there would be a major bump in earnings for boss and worker – think of taking the money spent on health care and giving raises.

We also should be clear that single payer would wipe out most of the insurance industry with its overhead and high executive salaries – and all those lobbying costs. How can that be a bad thing?

Let me end with a reference to some correspondence I’ve been having with  a WAVE reader who doesn’t agree with my take but does admire the variation of single payer system in Singapore, which forces everyone to pay something whenever they use a health service. (Google Singapore health care if interested in learning more.) I am open to negotiations on means payments and co-payments. My recent foray into health care related to a urinary tract infection taught me a few things. I had to have a picc line installed in my arm to receive antibiotics and it was done at NYU-Langone where two nurses and a doctor did the job (who knew that the line went  directly from my arm into my heart – ugh). They billed for over $15,000. Medicare paid about $600. It was clear before I went in – there would be no cost to me and they knew what they were going to get. Thus an advantage of single payer even with all the waste and fraud ( and over testing) – there is one place to go to get paid and someone makes a value judgment.

Even under single payer, which would replace everyone’s health care costs with a  --- dare I  say the word – tax, people would come out ahead.

If you want to read a medical horror story, check out the recent NY Times exposure (The Company Behind Many Surprise Emergency Room Bills) of scams where emergency rooms have been privatized by EmCare, a rapacious company. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/24/upshot/the-company-behind-many-surprise-emergency-room-bills.html.

          Changing the Meaning of Words
Much could be said, and much will be said and written about the Supreme Court's decision on the "same-sex marriage" issue. The following statement by Chief Justice Roberts sums up the legal situation quite well.

"This court is not a legislature … Whether same-sex marriage is a good idea should be of no concern to us. Under the Constitution, judges have power to say what the law is, not what it should be … The fundamental right to marry does not include a right to make a State change its definition of marriage … Five lawyers have closed the debate and enacted their own vision of marriage as a matter of constitutional law…" (Chief Justice Roberts).

This statement is well-thought out and well-reasoned. However, it is interesting to note that the Chief Justice used almost the exact opposite reasoning in his opinion on Obama Care. We need justices who will consistently interpret what the Constitution says, not what they want it to say. “Words mean things."

The bottom line on the "same-sex marriage" decision is that no court, not even the Supreme Court, has the right or authority to change the definition of marriage. God originated marriage, and His definition is the only valid one. Our government has now given "hearty approval" (Romans 1:32) to something of which God does not approve, and more than that, He calls it sin.

Truth is not determined by what people like or what makes them feel comfortable. It doesn't really matter if people don't like the truth. Truth is truth. God's Word is truth (John 17:17), and it would be very wise for those in leadership of our nation to heed that reality before it is too late.

Thoughts on Conservative strategy for the 2010 Midterm Elections and beyond
To date the news from the primaries has been mostly good. Conservatives are winning big. That's good, but if we are going to turn this country around we need to be thinking about our message for November. Obviously we want to halt the slide toward socialism, but independents, who may be crucial in this election, will want to know where we are planning to go. For example, we have said we want to repeal and replace Obama Care. Independents legitimately ask, "Replace it with what?" To avoid sounding negative, Conservatives should simply say they want to replace Obama Care with an approach to health care that gives the patient choice and control and won't break his bank account. Some good examples of health care initiatives can be found at the Center for Health Transformation (http://www.healthtransformation.net/cs/health_solutions_lab)

Illegal immigration is another hot button issue that needs to be handled carefully. The first issue that needs to be addressed is border enforcement. Illegals who commit crimes (in addition to violating our borders) need to be criminally prosecuted. But what of the 12 million or so illegal immigrants who work, pay taxes and don't cause trouble? Why not offer those who can document that they have been in the US for say 10 years a path to citizenship? And once the borders are secured a guest worker program should be started to enable those who want to work in agriculture, construction or any other field where they are needed to come to the US for a definite period of time. Since they would be required to register with ICE the opportunity for unscrupulous employers to cheat them on salary and benefits would be limited, and terrorists trying to cross th border could be caught.

One thing Conservatives should unequivocally oppose is further deficit spending. No more "stimulus" bills. Conservatives should also advocate making the Bush tax cuts permanent.

Thinking beyond the November election, Conservatives need to develop a strategy to avoid mischief by the lame duck Congress between the election recess and January. Filibusters can be mounted in the Senate. In the House no provision for a filibuster exists. However, Congressmen can begin introducing bills that will be part of their legislative agenda for 2011. Each bill will occupy some House time and thereby delay the Democrat majority bills. Discharge petitions can be used to unlock bills tied up in committee.
          The Slavery of Liberalism

                                 The Slavery of Liberalism
                                                        July, 15 2012
Most people, I think, would say off hand that Conservatism and Liberalism were, in the main, at odds with each other. There is no doubt that the two factions are always at each other’s throat….But they are by far, more closely in step ideologically than they would wish people to believe. While the Conservatives would take the hard-line stance against any governmentally funded social programs; preferring instead, that THE PEOPLE should find relief from the evils of capitalism through the Charity of the wealthy…..Liberals, however, are not so different in this respect, as they themselves are an enemy to Socialism; even though many of them would say otherwise……
Liberals are a considerable threat to Revolutionary Socialism as they historically seek a compromise between the Conservative political parties and the very real needs of the People, offering The People no real freedom from oppression, but rather, some watered down form of “partial relief” by way of government hand-outs, but never, ever lessening the grip of Capitalism upon the masses, while in turn, placating to the Wealthy and the Corporations. It is in this strategy, that the Liberals find strength and support, not only from the wealthy, but from many of the uneducated poor. To gain a better understanding of the liberal strategy, we have to look no further than Obama Care; known correctly as the Affordable Care Act, (here after ACA) which was passed by the United States Congress and upheld by the United States Supreme Court. It is a first rate example of how Liberals always find a way to intertwine the needs of the people with the oppression offered by capitalist corporations.
The over-all intent of the (ACA) is to provide health care to those who are in need..….and therefore; it would seem on its surface, to be a real benefit to the citizenry at large. This “Benefit” however comes with a large package of “Corporatism” that is of no benefit to anyone but the wealthy…..because of this fact, the ACA would most assuredly be strongly supported by many of the Conservatives…..were it not for the fact that the ACA is the brain-child of the Liberals.
Instead of just giving the people the health care that they not only need, but deserve….the ACA is a scheme based upon Corporate Free-Market health insurance and allows for a subsidy to help the poor buy the insurance that they, on their own, could not pay for….the wealth get no such government assistance. It is easy to see that there is a margin of inequality built into the ACA, as well as the classic Liberal connection to corporate wealth. The built-in inequality is necessary to give the illusion that the Liberals care about the poor and the use of Free Market Corporate insurance gives them the financial support that they need from the wealthy. Once again, the poor are strapped to some big-money corporation as a way to supply their needs, in this way………..the Liberals and the Conservatives are much the same.
This type of Liberal trickery is just as oppressive as any other form of Capitalism and a grave threat to the Socialist Revolution as is drains away,  through coercion, the exploited masses that would otherwise be among the ranks of the Revolutionaries. Obviously, this is not only bad for the revolution but further enslaves the poor. Even though they may not see it as slavery, the ACA requires that people to permanently tie themselves to Capitalism in order to meet their needs in the same way that they are tied to Capitalism for food, shelter and income.

          Trump Obama Care Executive Order
Q: I am writing to you because you are from Florida and certainly, if you don't know have access to other experts who do. I have read all of the online news analysis of President Trump's executive order but none address the order's impact on HIV Positive people. For me, I am worried because I in the market place, and I have already began changing Florida Blue policies from my current policy to a new policy that will take effect on March 1. I have already received a letter stating the change has bee...

A: Thanks for writing. I totally understand your worry about the ACA and what will replace it, a concern you share with thousands of others.Unfortunately, at this time, no one really knows what will happen. The situation is very fluid which is extremely difficult to for someone who much have access to care and medications with no break in treatment. I would certainly pay all current premiums so that there is no break in coverage and look to your local AIDS Service Organization (or a case manager) f...

Trump, transgêneros e a apologia do “natural”

Note to Democrats: A Little Hyperbole Wouldn't Hurt in the Battle Against the AHCA
Over on the right, there isn't a lie vomited out by Fox "news," Breitbart, or President Trump (all increasingly one and the same) that their followers will not believe. Yesterday, on the Twitter machine, I got into a pissing match with a fuckwit who insisted that "The Democrats passed Obama care by shoving it through without allow a single GOP member to read the bill." (All the errors are his.) Loads of conservatives believe this utterly easily disprovable bullshit.

Also yesterday, Chuck Schumer got Joni Ernst, acting as Senate President, to admit how much goddamn time was spent on the Affordable Care Act. Ernst sounds like she's swallowing rotten pig balls when she has to state that the ACA got "25 days of hearings and 169 hours of consideration." That's not counting weekends and recesses. In all, Senators had over 2 months from the first introduction of the bill to the Senate floor to the final vote. And Democrats weren't hiding it in the first place, since there had been a year of discussion and hearings prior to it coming to the entire Senate. So, you know, go fuck yourself with the sharp end of your talking point.

The only reason we're in this ludicrous mess with the American Health Care Act, the garbage bill that passed the House and is being rewritten in secret in the Senate, is because Republicans and their enablers were great at making the ACA seem like it was going to put on jackboots, walk into your home, kill your parents, and beat your spouse. Remember the "death panels"? How people actually acted like that was in the bill? How no one could successfully articulate that the real death panels were called insurance companies denying benefits for pre-existing conditions or when a limit on a benefit was reached?

Nothing could break through the thick layer of lie and hyperbole that was heaped on the public. Democrats were terrible messengers, either running away from the ACA because they bought the GOP's cruel fraud. Or they just sucked in even delivering positive news. Obamacare could have provided people with daily multiple orgasms, and Democrats would have fucked up articulating how that's a good thing.

Here we are, in the thick of a battle against some vague, but no doubt savage piece of legislation, and the left is just really gearing up for it. At this point, there should be ads from SuperPACs running constantly about how bad the AHCA is. And you know what? A little hyperbole wouldn't hurt about now. Mitch McConnell is trying to rape the nation with this spiked dildo of a law while so-called "moderate" Republicans do their usual dance of fake dignity, pretending like they actually give two shits about what McConnell is doing in the writing of the bill.

So there is a space for Democrats to creatively show the effects of a bill that quite simply takes money from the poor, the elderly, the addicted, and the sick and gives it to the very wealthy in the form of a tax cut. That's an easy ad right there: Rich people saunter into a doctor's office and rob a bunch of ill people in the waiting room, leaving them dying and sicker, only without hope of seeing a doctor.

Or how about a real death panel: a row of wealthy people behind a table, making a decision on whether or not each suffering poor person deserves help. Is it over the top? Yeah. That's the fucking point. Subtlety and well-reasoned arguments aren't going to win here because people don't respond to that. They respond to a rich puke punching Gramps in the balls until he hands over his wallet.

Enough with the calm, rational discussions. Enough with the speeches. Go for their throats with an emotional appeal. And that means crying people who would lose health care and the image of the uncaring Republican, ready to intentionally inflict more pain.

Ged nach eil i a' dearbhadh neo a'dol às àidhchedh an tèid neo nach tèid i an tòir gu bhith na ceann-suidhe, bha fianais gu leòr san òraid aice a leigeadh crèidinn gu bheil rùn aice leum a-steach san iomairt.

Sa chiad dol a-mach, thabhainn i plana eaconomaigeach. Carson a dheanadh i sin mura robh rùn aice leum a-steach dhan rèis? Am measg sna tha i a'moladh: cuir as do Obama Care 's riaghailtean eile a tha a'tachdadh an eaconomaidh. Tha i a' moladh leasachadh nan goireasan ola agus gas a th'againn rud a chruthaicheadh tòrr cosnaidhean dha-riribh 's nach cosgadh aon sgillin dhan riaghaltas. An fhírinn, gheibheadh an riaghaltas buannachd as a sin o na tighinn a-steach ùra a bhiodh an cois a bhith a'cur tòrr daoine air ais a dh'obair.

Agus gus am bi na Stàitean Aonaichte nas tarraingiche do ghníomhachas, tha i a'moladh cur as do chísean air companaidhean air fad agus cur as do thaic 's subseadaidhean bhon riaghaltas do chompanaidhean àraidh cuideachd. Tha moladh leigeil dhol fodha companaidhean nach eil comasach seasamh as aonas taic bhon riaghaltas.

A bharrachad air a sin, thog i teagamhan san òraid aice mu na tagraichean poblachdach eile san iomairt. Chan e a-mhàin faighinn cuideas Obama an ath-bhliadhn. Ceart cho cudtromach, 's e cò a chuireas sinn na àite. 'S iomadh uair a chaidh sinn ar mealadh le glèidhtich bhreugaich, an fheadhainn chanas dhuinn na rudan as toil leinn a chluintinn aig àm an tadhaidh 's as dèidh làimh a thilleas air ais do na caraidean aca ann an Washington.

Aig a'cheart àm, thàinig cunntas-beachd am bàrr gu 71% de na poblachdach an aghaidh gun tèid Sarah Palin an sàs san iomairt.

An t-seachdain-sa, bith dha dheasbad ann am measg tagraichean nam poblachdach. Tha mi fhín a'taobhadh ri Hermain Cain. Sin an duine as fheàrr leamsa chur an àite Obama an ath-bhliadhn.

obama care - welfare for the GOP to hang on the Dems
At the end of the day, much of Obama care is welfare: tax dollars are being used to help the poor. You can argue about the details, and all the other stuff in the plan, but thats the major cost component.
So, the question is: how long before the GOP realizes that Obama care is actually 100 billion dollars of welfare, and how long before we see the willy horton equivalent...

Should Donald Trump be impeached? Be careful what you wish for.
Do you really want President Mike Pence?

I suspect that setting foot in the White House these days is like stepping into a house that has suffered 90 years of termite damage, while the termites are still chomping away.

Donald Trump may have deflected attention away from himself for a day or two by appointing Christopher Wray the next FBI chief, but that’s short term stuff. The entire Trump White House operation is not only in disarray, but swaying, shaking, rattling, and collapsing on itself faster than a black hole can swallow up a dung beetle.

We have clear violations of the Foreign Emoluments clause of the Constitution,  as well as possible vulnerability to Russian blackmail mixed with nepotism, and the appearance of impropriety mixed with foreign skulduggery so strong that it assaults not only the eyes but the nostrils

Many Americans rightfully also smell Trump blood in the water. Some of my fellow Progressives, as well as other varieties of Democrats, are openly talking about impeachment.

I wish they’d shut up.

Yes, it’s possible that in the near future, disgust with Donald Trump will become so ubiquitous that even many Republicans will turn against him. It’s possible he can be impeached, if not now, then at least after the next Congressional elections, if Democrats gain, and Republicans lose enough election seats.

But then what will we get in Donald Trump’s place? You could not buy a better life insurance policy than Donald Trump gave himself when he named Mike Pence as his running mate. Pence would bring you  most of Trump’s regressive domestic policies, but without the incompetence that makes it so difficult for Trump to implement them. And if we somehow get rid of Mike Pence?

Then you get Paul Ryan, he of mysto-magic national budget plans intended to relieve the poor of their Social Security, Medicare and Obama care, while using the money taken from the poor to enrich the plumpest of America's fat cats.

Here's a handy rule to live by: do not remove an incompetent President with regressive instincts if he will be replaced by a competent President with similarly regressive instincts. Or to paraphrase Napoleon Bonapart, never interrupt the enemy when he is drowning in mistakes while trying to swim still further toward the deep end.

Instead, what sane Americans should be working for is a Democratic Congress and Senate that will hobble the president, passing progressive legislation, overriding his vetoes, vetoing his un-progressive nominees to the courts and elsewhere.

Impeachment is dangerous. Do not impeach Trump. Don’t put him in prison, as delicious as you might find that thought. Place him under White House arrest instead, by handicapping what little ability he has to function. And there let him fester and tweet his own head off until the next presidential election.

Do you have pricing information and availability yet? Does it come with 2 batteries? Medicare/Obama care decided I can't have my simply go back. It was sent in for repair but it's out of warranty. I want to buy a travel concentrator with continuous capability.
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren Tours EBNHC
By John Lynds Last week the Democrats had a huge victory as the U.S. Senate failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obama Care. While there was much to celebrate as several Republicans, like Senator John McCain, cast votes against the Senate bill to repeal Obama Care, Senate Democrats like Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren say the fight is ongoing and Obama Care is still under attack by many Republicans in the House and Senate. Warren was back in Massachusetts Monday and toured the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, a place that long before Obama Care offered quality health care to people of all ages, races and backgrounds regardless of their ability to pay. Warren toured both the Health Center’s Gove Street and Maverick Square facilities and ended her tour with a roundtable discussion where she heard from health care providers, patients and partners of EBNHC. “I want to thank Senator Warren and her team for visiting the Health Center today,” said EBNHC CEO Manny Lopes. “We are so happy about the work she has done to help the lives of individuals that don’t have a voice but also her work to protect the Affordable Care Act […]
Given all the rhetoric that is […]
The Humerus is not all that Humorous.
Today was a milestone for me.  I wore my bra for the first time in just over a month (even though I had to snap it first and then put it over my head).  And no...it's not like the 1970s when going bra-less was fashionable.  It's 2013.  And I am a bit older, and let's just say...more down-to-earth?

And yesterday?  I buckled the seatbelt in my car for the 1st time in a month.  And guess what?  I am typing today full-throttle.  With both hands...and all my fingers!  Even Mrs. Hall, my strict old-school typing teacher would be proud.

Why am I marking these, and other, milestones?  You know that saying?  The one that says "she can't chew gum and walk at the same time?"  Well, that was me 5 short weeks ago.

I was meeting the school bus near my daughter's home to pick up two of my grand-daughters.  I had my young grandson with me as we walked just a couple of houses down the court past the homes with well-manicured lawns.  I suddenly felt the heel of my boot wobble and the next thing I knew, I was on my hands and knees.

What the hell?  How did I get here on the street?  I remember grabbing for my sunglasses wondering how they got thrown to the road, when I suddenly felt intense pain in my upper arm between my shoulder and elbow.

Three of my daughter's neighbors, two who were also waiting for the bus, came to my rescue.  Concerned that I may have hit my head, or something more dreadful may have happened, the ladies prompted me to stand after a few minutes.

There was absolutely no way I was going to be able to stand.  The pain made the rest of my body sweaty and weak and I felt nauseated.  So there I sat on the cold, hard pavement for 15 minutes until I could muster up the strength and walk back to the house.  By the time I reached the house, I had to lie down again for a few minutes.

A couple of Advil, a quick ice pack, and, against the insistence of my daughter and her neighbor to help, I drove myself to the emergency room of the local hospital.

After a couple of hours and lots of waiting,  x-rays confirmed that I had broken the ball in my shoulder in three places.  I guess I had caught myself on my hand and the force traveled up to my shoulder.  The hospital staff sent me home with a sling that wasn't much better than a scarf tied around my neck, and told me to see an orthopedic doctor in three days.
Three days later with an arm now as black as the asphalt I had fallen on, my sister drove me to Dr. Bones (not his real name).  Dr. Bones, it seems, is quite the funny-man when it comes to me breaking my bones.

After more x-rays, I left with a $350 "shoulder immobilizer" that the technician charged directly to my credit card even before he fitted me.  (It would have been a $700 charge to my insurance company IF my insurance had covered "medical devices")  Side note:  In January Medical Devices will be covered under the new Obama Care health rules.

The first two weeks were quite painful, especially sleeping .  When I laid down to sleep, my arm from the elbow was straight up in the air. And without the use of my right hand, my daily duties have been highly curbed.

Cute Contraption
It's been a month now and every day I see improvement.  Matter of fact, a few nights ago, in a particularly fitful sleep, I unfastened the 5 velcro constraints, and tossed the brace to the floor.

I am not wearing it any more around the house, but am advised to "fasten-up" if I venture out in crowds.

The month actually passed by quickly.  I had Thanksgiving dinner for 10 at my house...thanks to Boston Market.  And my daughter and son have chipped in with a little grocery shopping, putting up the tree, and some of the other household chores.

And I thank my neighbor for snow removal and trash can retrieval.  Also thanks to another neighbor, my daughter-in-law, and my sister who each brought me a meal during that first week.  And also all those who offered their services, it was truly appreciated.

This was the first and hopefully the last bone I break.  I've nursed others through broken bones...ankles (yes, plural), wrist, collar bone, knee, and broken arms.

And just to be extra careful, next time I am chewing gum, you can bet that I will be sitting down and holdin' on!

          bug spray anyone?
Gawd, I feel like it's been forever since I've posted. Oh yeah, that's cuz it HAS been.

The other day an employee came into the office and asked me if I could help him sign up for Obama Care (yeah, as IF he cares...) because his computer skills were zilch. Even though I was incredibly busy checking out my email, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest accounts, I agreed to help out my fellow man. Hey, it's almost time for Santa to get here. This MIGHT BE the year I get my Chrissy doll!!

I started the lengthy process of signing up and setting up a profile, which basically consists of  repeating the same bullshit over and over on several of the first pages: name, address, email address, birth date, phone, lather rinse repeat. After every page of information, it then asks you to verify what you just typed making the whole thing seem redundant.

Next, we were given the option to check to see if the guy qualified for low income rates. We were asked several questions and I inputted all of the information and then out of nowhere it told me to review the profile, which was odd because that was information covered in setting up the account. I reviewed the profile and noticed there was no way for me to move forward. Abso-freaking-lutely no button on the page to go backward or forward, so I clicked on "Get Insurance" at the top and, of course, it started me all through setting up the profile again.

I clicked on live chat and explained my situation to Jaime, who told me to set up a profile. Well, duh, Jaime, why didn't *I* think of that?! When I pointed out again, that I HAD set up a profile, Jaime informed me that the reason I couldn't move forward was because there were so many ppl using the site at the same time. Okay, lets think about this: if there were 900 million google users on blogger right now and I had no button that said "publish" on my page would it be because of high usage or because of software problems? Again, I oh so politely pointed out to Jaime that it had nothing to do with a high volume of users, it was because of a software glitch, and he told me that if I called in "right now" he could help me fill out the application over the phone. I asked him for his direct phone number and he was strictly chat. Fine. No phone sex for you, Jaime.

I logged out of chat and called the bug'ment, I mean gub'ment and explained the situation to knowledgeable Yvonne, who told me she would be happy to help me. The first thing we needed to do was set up a profile. Typical government. It's all about the profiling.

I explained AGAIN that I had done all of that and I was unable to move forward because there was no button on the page. Yvonne informed me that it was due to a high volume of users. I'm guessing that's the standard gub'ment line for all problems on this friggin' website. Yvonne told me the employee would have to call back later and she would 'help' him and that it shouldn't take long because we already set up the all important 'profile'. I told him to let me know how things went.

He called me later to say that after an hour and a half on the phone, he had insurance. I asked him why it had taken so long. Too many users on the website at the same time? Har. Har. Nay, it was because as Yvonne was talking to us about the application, she was also deleting all of it at the same time, requiring the employee to ....you guessed it.....set up a new profile!!

Now here's the thing that scares me: this is a website where you input all of your personal, confidential information. Exactly how many days before this inept piece of crap is hacked?
Government Spending: Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations Goes THUD!

US Senate reports the tragic loss of 1 gavel, two leather Senate seats, the US Budget, and their minds!

The Federal Government was shut down, due to the Republican opposition to Obama Care. That, rightfully, has gotten a lot of press.  Meanwhile, the rest of the Federal budget has been largely ignored.

Transportation spending is appropriated through the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill.  What you should know about the bill that did not pass is it had no funding for TIGER Grants (which have funded additional infrastructure projects across the US) or Core Capacity Grants (for updating and adding public transit development), slashed funding to the FAA’s air traffic control modernization program, and a cut in Amtrak’s capital program by 37 percent.

The Senate THUD bill allocated $54 billion, which fell between last year’s budget and President Obama’s proposed budget but $10 billion above the house THUD bill.

The THUD appropriations bill had enough supporters (historically, this bill is not fought over), but shortly before the vote, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) pressed the half dozen republican senators who supported the bill to retract their support.  The vote had a 54-43 roll call — six short of the 60 votes needed to invoke cloture.

Senator McConnell and others rejected the $54 billion THUD bill, saying if they had allowed the THUD bill to pass, the headlines “would have been Congress on a bipartisan basis walks away from the Budget Control Act.”

You are well aware of the fight over health care.  But our nation’s fiscal issues carry far beyond this one part of the government.

Americans have been angry enough to respond to polls (this is the first stage of political dissent when a citizen is only angry enough to punch buttons really, really hard on their phone during a robo-call survey in hopes someone gets the message).  Or perhaps it is people being disaffected enough to do little more than respond to polls.
As a result,  NPR reported that “63 percent of respondents — and 51 percent of Republicans — said Congress should provide the funding necessary to keep the government open.”

Better World Club President Mitch Rofsky worked in Washington D.C. during a different time. “When I was there, Senator Ted Kennedy (MA-D) and the ranking minority member of his committee, say, Senator Orrin Hatch (UT-R) would meet privately and work out a compromise.  Today, Hatch is afraid that he’ll face a primary challenge if he’s seen talking to a Democrat.  (Senators Wallace Bennett (UT-R) and Richard Lugar (IN-R) were defeated in Republican primaries by Tea Party challengers.) The Federal Government was not designed for this kind of polarization.”

Maybe it is time you responded to some more polls - after you find a way to let your Senator and Representative know how you feel.

Comment on Will Big Insurance Companies Need A Financial Bailout? by Lynne
Ted's comparison of the behemoth health insurance companies with our similarly dysfunctional banking/investment companies is spot on. I agree that something must change. Stephen Hemsley, CEO of UnitedHealth Group, took home $106 million in compensation in 2009: — $7.5 million in salary and benefits and $98.5 million in stock options (St. Louis Post-Dispatch). Over the next five years (the 2014 salaries are the most recently published numbers by Morningstar) his take-home salary doubled! As shocking as his $14.9 million dollar straight-up salary is, it is the 100 millions in stock options that takes it beyond any definition of obscene. The true compensation of the top five earners in that company comes in at around Half a Billion Dollars! So when someone says "OMG, UnitedHealth could be down a 1 billion dollars!", well, I think it is obvious how to instantly take care of half that problem! And finding the other half would probably take about 30 min. Since the health insurance companies (as well as the banking/finance institutions) were out of control prior to Obama Care, making Obama Care the scapegoat doesn't get at the root of the problem, and seems disingenuous. Ted could you please blog on possible methodologies for getting these money-hungry, greed-charged systems, where billions of dollars are changing hands in ways that are certainly not to the benefit of the client, under control? I don't thinking taking healthcare away from lower income people so that the C-suite few can walk away with $100s of millions is really going to make most of us any happier. Thanks.
Comment on Understanding Trump & His Supporters by Carrie
This audio program underlines my concern that Trump haters often over exaggerate all aspects of Trump. They talk of his lying like he is purposely misleading people. Is that like how Obama and Clinton lied about Obama care and Bengazi? Is it like Clinton accepting so much money "for the foundation" from Russia and so many countries who denigrate woman and others? There do not seem to be real facts that Trump has hurt our country. Mostly I find it difficult to listen to insults to the office of our president. For years people ere afraid to be critical of Obama because of being called racists. Maybe part of all the anger is anger that is easier to give a rich white man. Sure he is not perfect but who can really know what is in his heart?
I Was Part of the New York Times Flawed Poll On Louisiana Senate Race
I differ from most people that think telemarketers and pollsters should have a place in hell reserved for them where the flames burn a little hotter.

First I think political polling plays a critical importance in our nation.

Second I have actually done what these folks calling are doing.. I cringe thinking of the verbal abuse I got from folks for a job that was not paying megabucks to say the least.. So when a poll taker gets me on the phone it's their lucky day. I also get that the poor guy  on the other end of the line does NOT get paid unless he or she gets complete responses. So no matter who is running the poll I always complete it no matter who is running it.

I got called last week to take part in a rather extensive poll .

I took particular interest in this poll since it was done by the New York Times. The results of this poll taken in several Southern States where Senate races are hot are in.

See Poll Shows Tight Senate Races in Four Southern States .

As to two of these southern states I think I have some familiarity with the current political dynamics . The first being Louisiana of course and the next to some degree Arkansas since I am just 30 minutes from the border.

The poll  results today I think show while polling is needed it is still a very tricky business

The results of the polls on the Senate races drew some pretty quick reactions of disbelief in some Republican quarters. Pryor ahead in Arkansas by 10 points ? Mary Landrieu beating Congressman Cassidy 42 to 18 percent ? What ? From what I know this does not depict a reality any of these campaigns think are happening on the ground.

So what happened. First as the Weekly Standard  notes the voting sample used shows a voting public that does not match reality. They say in part :

In other words, the Times and Kaiser have produced a sample in Arkansas that reports they voted in 2012 for Romney over Obama--by one point. But Romney carried Arkansas in 2012 by 24 points. Similarly, the Kentucky sample is +3 Romney when reality was +23. The Louisiana sample is +3 Obama in a state Obama lost by 17, and the North Carolina sample is +7 Obama in a state he lost by 3.

Now how did this happen ?

First this poll had to be one of the longest polls I ever took. It ran close to 30 minutes and I was counting the minutes because the LSU baseball game was on at the time which I was of course missing.

The vast majority of questions were about Obama are / ACA and related Louisiana issues of Medicare expansion. Strangely these questions do not appear in the list of questions that were asked that is provided by the New York Times.

The questions on Obama care related issues seemed to take on a push poll like quality. A push poll is when the questions are phrased in a way to get a result. I am not sure that was the intention but that was I thinking .

I think this might have been an effect of just the cumulative nature of the questions . Further the questions were very detailed at times and the pollster seemed not interested in me putting things into a undecided or don't know category . The pollster was doing what is called a hard sell. He wanted you to make a choice.

I was starting to feel some aggravation at this as this poll went on and on. I can just imagine how some that are not pollster friendly were feeling. This becomes critical because  the who you were going to vote for Senate question came up fairly late.In fact it seem just a sideline of the overall poll itself.

I suspect a good many  of anti Obamacare , and conservative leaning voters bailed on this poll before it was completed and thus their responses were thrown out. . LIKE HEY YOU HAVE TAKEN ENOUGH OF MY TIME sort of thing.

On the flip side if you really are invested in the success of Obamacare /ACA I think it was more likely you would answer questions all day as to the way this poll was set up.Thus you got to the Senate question and had your entire poll answer counted.

So at the end of the day we get a voting sample that just seems so out of whack with reality. If the poll had fewer questions or perhaps more questions on a variety of topics we might have got a poll that seems to reflect in a Louisiana voting public ( the folks that actually vote )  reality.

Again polling is a tricky business.

That being said the fact that Mary Landrieu is only running in the low 40's in a voting sample of Obama + 3 can't be the best news of the day for her.

Hey brother, can you spare a dime?

There was a green piece of paper stapled to my pay stub. Never a good sign. Well, I thought, at least it isn’t pink. Yes, my job was safe—it was my health insurance that got laid off. The green note told me that the company’s health insurance, which has gone up by leaps and bounds over the last few years, was set to go up another whopping 25% next year, and my employer was throwing in the towel. They can’t stay in business and provide us health insurance.

I was cast upon the Exchange.

OK. I can do this.

The first stop, recommended by my employer, was the Kaiser Family Foundation, where they have an online calculator that estimates what a plan will cost based on your age, family size, income, location, and what not. It also estimates how much help you might get in paying the tab. As a reminder, the law requires all of us to get insurance, but lower income folks are supposed to get a subsidy to help pay the tab.

So I entered my state, my zip, what I thought my income was last year, the fact that my employer kicked my insurance to the curb, the number of people in my family, my age, my wife’s age (her real one, not the one she tells everyone), admitted I was a tobacco user, logged one living child, and confirmed that HE was not a tobacco user—no shit, it asks—then pressed the submit button.

One second later I had the answer.

Two seconds later I thought that there must have been some kind of mistake.

Because my estimated premium for health insurance was 19.7% of my annual pre-tax income. Maybe. Actually, it might be a lot more. There was a little note that said “In most states, insurers can charge a tobacco surcharge of up to 50% of your total premium.” It went on to say that any subsidy I got could not be applied to this surcharge. So that raises the base premium to 29.62% of my gross income. For those of you not of a business bent of mind, gross income is my pre-tax income, not what I get to “take home.” This means the premium would take an even bigger bite out of the household budget than it looks like it would. And it gets worse. About half my income is from various forms of self-employment, all of which are not only taxed at a higher rate, but we self-employed folks pay both the employer and employee share of social security taxes, reducing our take-home pay by 13.3% before we even get to the income taxes. (Don’t freak out, in your state the health plans may be cheaper, and if so, I may have to migrate there).

All of that combined means there is no fucking way I can afford to pay for health insurance. Literally. When the bills are paid, there ain’t much left. This premium would require a hair over a third of my take-home pay, and like most Americans, I’m juggling bills and living paycheck to paycheck.

Right now I’m very spoiled. I have awesome Canadian-style insurance that I only paid like $45 a month for. Of course my pay is low, but I always viewed good insurance as the counter balance for that. So I checked in with my boss, Hey, these exchange premiums are really insane. Will the company be helping me out with them in some way?” The response? “We cannot legally supplement premium costs for those on the exchange.” Followed up with, “I am sorry about all this—the aches and pains of the Affordable Care Act will take several years to resolve, and your situation is one that will be painful while it does.”

Ya think? Well, I’m sorry too. I work seven fucking days a week to help people with diabetes be healthy and I can’t even afford health insurance? It’s bitterly ironic. It would be funny if my life weren’t in the balance.

But wait, what about that subsidy? The help I’m supposed to get from the government. Won’t that knock something off the tab? Yes. And in my particular circumstance they will pick up 55% of the non-tobacco share of the premium. (OK, I could give up my evening cigar, but I have to be smoke-free for something like five years before I don’t have to pay the surcharge.) That subsidy sounds generous on the surface, but it’s not nearly enough to make this workable. The premiums would still be a budget-busting check what would exceed 23% of my monthly take home pay every month, a premium/surcharge check that surely would bounce if I had the courage to write it. But let’s say we lived without electricity, heat, and running water and gave nearly a quarter of my take-home pay to the local insurance company. How well would my new insurance cover my health needs?

About one quarter short of a dollar.

All the estimates the calculator gave me are based on the “Silver” plan. For those of you who don’t know yet, all exchange plans come in four flavors: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The only difference is in how much you pay out of pocket vs. how much the plan pays for covered services (what is covered and isn’t covered is as much a mystery as ever). The percentage covered by the plan ranges from 60% for bronze to 90% at the Platinum. Of course, to get Platinum coverage you need to pay a Platinum Premium.

Anyway, at my estimated Silver level I would need to pick up 30% of my doctors visits, lab tests, imaging, and prescriptions. Frankly, that’s the one that scares me shitless. Thirty percent of the cost of a vial of rapid-acting insulin is $49.46. Thirty percent of a vial of basal insulin is $56.99. Thirty percent of a pair of Victoza pens is $102.73. Thirty percent of a month’s supply of test strips is $54.00. Altogether that’s $263.18. And we haven’t even gotten started. How well will durable medical goods will be covered? How much will my CGM sensors cost me? And if I decided to go back on a pump, the total medical costs would exceed my income! Well. Actually, they won’t. After all, there is an out-of-pocket limit.

Of $12,700 a year.

If you work the math, and please don’t, in my case when I add my premium, surcharge, and my maxed-out out-of-pocket expenses, it works out to something like 51% of my income. My pre-tax income.

Oh, and I also have to pay for 30% of mental health and substance abuse treatment, both of which I’m thinking I’m going to need real soon.

So what’s my option? I can choose to opt out and pay a fine. Next year it will be 1% of my income. The year after that it would be 2%. Sounds like I can opt out for a long time before I’m paying fines of 51% of my income. Would I be better off paying the fine and putting that money towards my meds and gear? Yes. Unless I ended up in the hospital for some reason, get run over by a truck, fell out of a plane, get cancer, or whatever.

What triple sucks is that I’ve always been a supporter of this reform. I don’t mind paying more and getting less if we are moving forward as a society. And I’ve always believed that people who whined about the law were (a) bad citizens who don’t care about their fellow man or (b) unrealistic idiots who couldn’t see the handwriting on the wall. I’ve been saying all along that if you think your insurance is good, you haven’t used it; and If you think your insurance is stable, you haven’t talked to your employer recently.

During the debates the nay-Sayers wailed and gnashed their teeth about who would pay for “Obama Care.” No one asked the real question: Who will pay for doing nothing? The train was out of control. Double digit cost increases can only go on so long before the costs exceed all the money in the world.

I knew my coverage would be worse this winter, but I knew it was worse than bad for so many others right now. I was happy to move down the ladder a few rungs so the people down below could climb up a few. I also knew I’d be paying more for that worse insurance, but I was OK for that. We’re all in this together. It just never occurred to me that it would be quite literally unaffordable.

That rather than move down the ladder I would fall off of it.

40 Million, 70 Million, 110 Million, what will it be next week?

Target is so far behind that they might as well just close down and go home.  They already have several dozen Class Action suits pending and this latest information will generate more suits and not just from Target customers.

Details at:  http://targetstoressucks.blogspot.com/ and at the NY Times site:  http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/11/business/target-breach-affected-70-million-customers.html?hpw&rref=business&_r=2

Shortly you will see suits filed by banks and credit card firms to recover costs and damages for the efforts they have had to, and will continue to have, for canceling and reissuing new cards for customers and also for losses they will have in crediting back customers for those bogus charges made by scammers.

As you can see from a post lower down on the site I immediately (on 12/30/13) filed a BBB complaint saying that Tarbutt had a responsibility to provide ALL who shopped at their stores during the affected period with FREE credit monitoring services.

All I got back from the Better Cover Up Bureau was a form letter saying that Targets reply, directing me to their generic statement, was the reply and closing the complaint.

Tarbutt is a dues paying member of the Better Cover Up Bureau so you can't expect much from that bunch of chuckleheads.  I guess that enough consumers were pissed off enough to insist that they get FREE credit monitoring services.

Of course experience shows that any contact site for them will involve hours of attempts to reach it and it will be about as easy to sign up for as 'Obama Care'.  Unlike a N.J. Governor, Target was not forthcoming initially and when exposed by a blogger they minimized the loss.  This gives Target a further black eye and shows that they can not be trusted to tell the truth.

NBC and CBS quote Target that 110,000,000 people are at risk and you did not even have to shop at Target!  Card information stolen may be from their data base and go back several years from in store and internet transactions.

You can expect that scammers will soon be using the information they have now to contact consumers by phone and email in attempts to obtain additional information so as to obtain government issued ID such as driver licenses and passports for identity theft.

Misc www.thebreakroom.org Info.  I get a decent amount of traffic coming from this site to mine, however, I have been banned for about the 21st time by one of their reactionary morons who don't want their readers coming to my Target Sucks site.  It is unfortunate that site has this idiot in a position as Administrator.  Here is the latest from them:
The Break Room Message
You have been banned for the following reason:
Ignored Previous Ban. -HardlinesFour  Date the ban will be lifted: Never

Here is an extract of what Tarbutt HQ had to say in their press release:

Target Provides Update on Data Breach

"Company extends credit monitoring and identity theft protection to all guests.

the investigation has determined that the stolen information includes names, mailing addresses, phone numbers or email addresses for up to 70 million individuals. . . Target is offering one year of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to all guests who shopped our U.S. stores. Guests will have three months to enroll in the program. Additional details will be shared next week. To learn more, please go to target.com/databreach."

          Obamacare Has Found CheChe

Over at Ace of Spades, we find this...

Daily Kos Diarist: Crikey, I'm Ever So Suprised and Upset to Discover That ObamaCare Has Doubled Me Bloomin' Health Insurance Premium!

And Ace makes this comment:

I haven't seen this much emotion from a Kossack since Che-Che and his perpetually-sobbing daughter.

Did someone say CheChe? I've had fun a couple of times with that CheChe post. Here and here.

Here we are again. Poor CheChe's daughter has been trying to sign up to get her some of that sweet, sweet Obamacare. Only, there may have been a glitch or two.

I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my daughter as I just did when she tried signing up for Obamacare.

She just couldn't understand why the system kept timing out and error pages kept coming up, when she so desperately needs insurance subsidized by other Americans who actually work for a living. "Doesn’t the Obama administration care about my needs anymore?" she asked pitifully.

I sat down with her on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to her why Obama seems to be abandoning all the promises he made when Obamacare was being passed. "Honey, I am afraid that we have come to the point in our nation’s history when a majority of the people who work in government have become fat, lazy and stupid…exploiting the very citizens who vote to give them the most power - and those in government, from Obama on down, care more about enriching themselves as the country rots from within.”

I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. I think my daughter could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, "Honey, I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..."

When I finished her lower lip started to tremble and her eyes began to fill with tears, "Daddy" she said, "why is Obama doing this to the country?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. She just fell into my arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes.

For once she had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think it's too much, but seeing the strength in my young daughter's voice helped me to get through.

Heart rending. But it gets worse. CheChe himself just got a letter from his insurance company.

I don't think I've ever seen such a look of misery and dejection on the face of my father as I just did when he just opened the letter from Kaiser Permanente.

My dad, known to all of you as CheChe, just couldn't understand why his insurance policy which he's had for nearly a decade had been cancelled, and the premiums for alternative they were offering were double what he had been paying. And the deductible had been tripled. "Doesn’t Obama care about us anymore?" he asked pitifully.

I sat down with him on the sofa and (as calmly as I could) tried to explain to him why the President seems to be abandoning him. "Daddy, I am afraid that in order to give free healthcare to everyone, someone has to pay. I'm not sure how this works, but apparently my right to get free birth control affects the cost of your insurance. I don't know why. It's not at all what Obama told us."

I tried to keep my voice steady, but it became increasingly difficult - the rage and feelings of helplessness were just too much. I think my dad could tell something was wrong. I found myself at such a loss for words - nothing made any sense; nothing makes sense anymore. I finally had to admit, "Daddy, I just don't know - I don't know what's going on in this country anymore..."

When I finished dad's lower lip started to tremble and his eyes began to fill with tears, "Honey" he said, "why has Obama done this to the country?" Well, that was it for me: I finally fell apart. He just fell into my arms and we both began sobbing for several minutes.

For once he had to comfort me and get me back on my feet. Sometimes I just think it's too much, but seeing the strength in my daddy's voice helped me to get through.

Here's a dirty little secret: they're both still enthusiastic about Hillary 2016.

Yes We Can & Did! Happy Holidays, hooray for the Dems who never gave up!
Dear Obama/Biden Supporters:

I have a confession to make-I have had this blog on my desktop for weeks to send out. I have been communicating with many of you individually but couldn't' bear to send out such a negative message. If you don't know it by now, I am an optimist by nature, just like my father used to be. I told sister Suzi last night that I had to send this out before I left and she said, forget it. However, I couldn't do that and all that has gone on since the lunar eclipse has given me strength and renewal of spirit! You may think I am nuts but the passage of Don't Ask Don't Tell started things off and we haven't looked backward in the last 48 hours. You can see from Hank's latest editorial(***see it below) that even he has turned around and found the "President we all voted for". So, I want to end by wishing you all a happy and healthy New Year and saying I can breathe again. We are so lucky to have overcome the hyper-partisanship of the just say no Congress (with major help from the brilliant and beautiful Kirsten Gillibrand-Senator from NY) and to end this year with a bang not a wimper!!! I will end with something Susan from Rye sent me that really struck home,a quote from MLK (that magnificent man who would be so proud of BHO today) . From Susan: Someone brought this quote and read it at the meeting the other night and it really struck me. It is hard to do what is right when one has so many responsibilities! (Obama). Our role as grassroots organizers is to be the ones that keep reminding him of what is right. We can't be unbending and we have to be willing to compromise, but the dialogue must be always framed with the correct message, don't you think? "On some positions, Cowardice asks the question, "Is it safe?" Expediency asks the question, "Is it politic?" And Vanity comes along and asks the question, "Is it popular?" But Conscience asks the question "Is it right?" And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must do it because Conscience tells him it is right." — Martin Luther King Jr.

With love and best wishes for a wonderful New Year!

A renewed Mama 4 Obama

(Now below is what I wrote before the wonderful passage of DADT, health insurance for 9/11 First Responders, and the amazing New Start Treaty:)

I was watching Bob Dylan's story last night on American Masters and heard a quote from him,"we really believed as song writers we would change the world. We thought from our words and our songs we could help end segregation". I had an ah ha moment of why I have been so tormented the last few days over Obama's "compromise". I think we people who worked for him and gave up our lives to get him elected thought we could change the world and the country. How uniformed we were about the workings of government. We thought we were part of a movement and that good would triumph over bad. Eight years of W with constant disagreement over a war of choice, greed and power running the government and then along came our "savior". What we didn't realize is that most of Congress put the next campaign over people and the country. However, our President is working for the next generation not the next election. I know people are angry and hurt like Kathy in MO who said: "Those assy rethugs are emboldened by the idiots putting them back in power in the last election. I don't think there is any dealing with them. They are going to get their way or nothing at all gets done no matter how important it is or how much it hurts the country. I am disappointed in Obama for cutting a deal with them and leaving the Dems out of the negotiations. Being bipartisan and compromising never used to mean giving in and giving them everything they want!" However, we have to remember those who will benefit from the President's compromise with the GOP. Jenny from the white House committee on women and girl's sent a complete list of those who will benefit from the bill(*****see e-mail from Lee and Jenny). She stated," it is a tough time, but we are moving in the right direction. This will really be good for women and families, so it’s an even more important message for us to get. Thank you for sharing information with others." Sue Hornik from OFA Most of us were pretty peeved that tax cuts for the rich were included, and the night of the announcement when I mentioned our unhappiness to my husband, who formerly reported on economics, he looked at me and said: “Are you nuts? We’re on the verge of a double-dip recession and he just got a second stimulus package.”

So I figured I better do a little more homework. For those of us who aren’t economic experts, the most understandable analysis is Austan Goolsbee’s White Board (he’s the new chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and was the President’s key econ man during the campaign). You can catch it in two places: http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/12/09/white-house-white-board-tax-cuts-unemployment-insurance-jobs and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOH6t6mxuJM ...

Well, now you can see why I was stuck and unable to send this out. All I can say is this is a very special day for me,and I wish our beloved President a good rest in Hawaii. He is going to need all his strength to face the 2011 Congress. We got a "shellacking" and the American people rewarded the party that not only opposed the stimulus but tried to block the extension of unemployment benefits. They also rewarded the party that proposed to inflate the debt by hundreds of billions of dollars with tax cuts for the least needy two per cent. They rewarded the GOP because they were frustrated with inaction and blocked or watered down whatever it couldn't block, but we ended up the winners and don't you forget it. Grassroots and perseverance will not be overcome!!! I will be gone for a week and back after the New Year, lets all take a rest-we deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!!

With love,Sunny

****From Hank in NYC(out of order but right for the day, time, and end of the year!):

This will be my last Op/Ed piece of 2010. I wish you the happiest and healthiest of holidays, and a wonderful 2011!

Subject: To The Editor

“Obama, The Man We Voted For!”

Watching the President smack his hand on his desk and say, “this is done”, referring to his signing of the Bill that repealed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, we saw the Barack Obama that filled us all with so much hope and promise of what might be possible for America. Listening to the pundits saying that this was a good week for the President, one could not help but think that this was, despite all the doomsayers, a very good year for America. We have come back from the depths of the Great Recession and are poised to make major gains in job creation in 2011. All Americans now have access to quality, affordable health care, and nobody can be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions, serious illness or because they have reached a dollar limit for their coverage. Parents can now keep their children on their health insurance plans until age twenty six, and Obama Care has removed the “doughnut hole” from senior citizens cost of drugs.

This President’s courage and determination to see that all Americans are treated fairly has led to serious financial reform, continued tax relief for the middle class and small businesses, and yes, even the super rich who we hope will use that windfall to help charitable causes and to create jobs. Now that American businesses know what their taxes and health care costs will be, they may well start to hire and expand their operations. Employees will have a one year grace period where their share of payroll taxes will be reduced by 2%. Hopefully this will give many people the impetus to spend, send their children to college, and thereby do their part to further stimulate the economy. For those suffering from not being able to find meaningful, well-paying jobs, Mr. Obama has won them an additional year of unemployment benefits.

One of the more striking accomplishments for Mr. Obama this year was the ratification of the “Start Treaty” with Russia. Despite serious and at one time seemingly improbable odds, the President mounted a strong public campaign to gain support for this treaty, including the buy-in from every living former Secretary of State, Democrat and Republican. With the 71 to 26 vote in favor of ratification, Mr. Obama silenced the likes of Mitch (the un-wise) McConnell, John Kyl and the seemingly mentally depressed and deflated John McCain, the three un-wise men who wanted to be the Grinches who stole Christmas.

Barack Obama came into the presidency arguably facing the greatest set of problems since FDR. His lack of experience, combined with the enormous economic problems he inherited during his first year, were enough to defeat all but the hardiest of men, but Mr. Obama has learned, gained strength and confidence, and faces the last two years of his first term with enthusiasm, historic accomplishments behind him, and the renewed faith in what may have been the greatest campaign slogan of all time, “Yes We Can”!

From Doni in New Jersey:

A large Israeli police force accompanied by bulldozers from the Israel Land Administration razed the Bedouin village of Al-Arakib on Monday, destroying the temporary homes constructed by the village residents since the previous demolition. With the help of volunteers, the residents have already begun the reconstruction of the village, and have vowed to keep rebuilding until the Israeli government recognizes their rights to their land.

We, a coalition of Israeli and American Jewish organizations, condemn the Israeli government's continued demolition of Bedouin villages in the Negev and the expulsion of their residents. We condemn the Jewish National Fund for its complicity in displacing Bedouin citizens of Israel from their homes and land to make way for forests and new Jewish-only communities in their place.

The Bedouin have no comparable opportunities to create new agricultural or livable communities. They are being forced to leave their homes, lands and way of life for overcrowded urban centers plagued by crime, unemployment and despair.

We call on the Israeli government, with the support of the JNF in Israel (KKL) and JNF-US, to negotiate a just and mutually agreeable solution to the plight of the 190,000 Negev Bedouin, Israel's poorest and most disadvantaged minority - half of whom live in "unrecognized villages" without electricity, running water, sewage disposal, schools or health clinics, and with the constant fear of demolition and expulsion...

In “Advancing Reproductive Justice for Latinas in the U.S.” Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas, deputy director

the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, offers poignant examples of the array of financial, regulatory and social barriers that stop many Latinas from accessing the birth control they seek, even when they have insurance. She displays keen disappointment that the health care reform legislation of 2010 because it does little to nothing to minimize or eliminate the these difficulties is palpable.

Especially if you missed the opportunity to ‘meet’ Jessica when she joined Future Choices in October, you will want to hear from her this month as she unrolls the Latina Institute’s strategies for ensuring the fundamental human right to reproductive health and justice for Latina neighbors, their families and their communities.

Future Choices is brought to your home either on Channel 75 (Cablevision) or Channel 36 (Verizon). The show airs Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm with repeats 3 am, 9 am, 3 pm and 9 pm the following day. See full schedule:

Don’t know if any of you saw the segment on Women in the GOP last night on Hardball…but at the end of the segment which portrayed a very specific type of Grizzly Mama…Chris Matthews asked who was the up-and-coming woman among Dems – Joan Walsh said Kirsten Gillibrand and went on to praise her toughness…Chris not only agreed but said she was a woman to watch!!!

From Eileen in KCMO: We have to keep a sense of humor!

A pretty little girl named Suzy was standing on the sidewalk in front of her home. Next to her was a basket containing a number of tiny creatures; in her hand was a sign announcing FREE KITTENS.

Suddenly a line of big black cars pulled up beside her. Out of the lead car stepped a grinning woman.

"Hi there little girl, I'm Sarah Palin. What do you have in the basket?" she asked.

"Kittens," little Suzy said.

"How old are they?" asked Palin.

Suzy replied, "They're so young, their eyes aren't even open yet."

"And what kind of kittens are they?"

"Tea Party," answered Suzy with a smile.

Palin was delighted. As soon as she returned to her car, she called her PR chief and told him about the little girl and the kittens.

Recognizing the perfect photo op, the two agreed that the former governor should return the next day; and in front of the assembled media, have the girl talk about her discerning kittens.

So the next day, Suzy was again standing on the sidewalk with her basket of "FREE KITTENS," when another motorcade pulled up, this time followed by vans from ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN.

Cameras and audio equipment were quickly set up, then Palin got out of her limo and walked over to little Suzy.

"Hello, again,"she said, "I'd love it if you would tell all my friends out there what kind of kittens you're giving away."

"Yes ma'am," Suzy said. "They're Democrats."

Taken by surprise, Palin stammered, "But... but... yesterday, you told me they were TEA PARTY."

Little Suzy smiled and said, "I know. But today, they have their eyes open."

From Betty in Scarsdale:

A No Labels solution to Washington gridlock?

By William A. Galston and David Frum

Friday, December 3, 2010

As President Obama and congressional leaders struggle to establish a working relationship, they should ponder the sentiments of the real - and very frustrated - American majority.

A Pew survey taken after the midterm election found that 55 percent of respondents wanted Republican leaders in Washington to "try as best they can to work with Barack Obama to accomplish things, even if it means disappointing some groups of Republican supporters." Sixty-two percent wanted Obama to work hard to cooperate with Republicans, even if it meant disappointing some of his supporters.

But what the people want and what they expect are very different. In Congress, the center has collapsed, and ideological overlap between the parties has vanished. Although 30 percent of grass-roots Republicans consider themselves moderate or liberal, and 60 percent of Democrats consider themselves moderate or conservative, their voices are muted in the nation's capital. As increasingly polarized media feed centrifugal forces, potential primary challengers stand ready to punish deviation from party orthodoxies. Only 22 percent of the Pew respondents thought that cooperation was likely to happen under these circumstances.

On Dec. 13, more than 1,000 citizens from the 50 states will convene in New York to change the odds. They are founding a movement - No Labels. Among them will be Democrats, Republicans and independents who are proud of their political affiliations and have no intention of abandoning them. A single concern brings them together: the hyper-polarization of our politics that thwarts an adult conversation about our common future. A single goal unites them: to expand the space within which citizens and elected officials can conduct that conversation without fear of social or political retribution...

My head is swimming. My hands are shaking. My teeth are grinding together so hard that my jaw muscles look like I'm storing walnuts in there for the winter.

For once, these symptoms are not being caused by politics. I have not had a cigarette in four days. I have been gobbling nicotine lozenges like M&M's, and am breathing freely for the first time in twenty years. I think I've got this thing licked.

As it turns out, I picked exactly, precisely the right week to undertake this daunting exercise. I might as well have; with everything that has been going on, the physical symptoms I have been suffering - wooziness, tremors, grinding teeth, anxiousness, sleeplessness, and the occasional bout of extreme rage - would have been present anyway. Hi--Didn't know if you saw this--what a day! Robin--I thought the panel with Mayor Mike was really good and can't remember if you stayed for that! Ill be happy to tell u abt it--also Cory Booker woke all up and Joe Sestak truly spoke from his heart!!

Here is what I remember. Cory Booker was outstanding. I had never heard him speak before and I was blown away. Content wasn't much different from others, but delivery was inspired. I thought the Bloomberg panel was somewhat thought-provoking. It was about gerrymandering and the partisanship emanating from rigged districting. Unfortunately, it was also boring and a waste of Bloomberg and Charlie Christ, both of whom I thought had a lot more to offer. Joe Sesnak was also excellent and very poignant.

I just heard on CNN that the tax bill passed the preliminary vote in the Senate with 83 "for" votes. They said it was likely there would be modification to the estate tax provision in order to maximize the possibility of passage by the House later this week. But that's CNN--very unofficial on everything but the numbers.

Talked to some interesting people at lunch, but all-in-all, by staying as long as you did, in my opinion, you got the gist of it. Sheila

However, he gave too much to the very, very wealthy at the expense of many important programs. I am like you feeling lost.

Subject: The Tax Deal and Women and Families

Good morning,

Please view the attached report from the National Economic Council on how the tax deal benefits women and families. For example:

· Women represent about 60 percent of the parents benefitting from the EITC and CTC expansions in the agreement. An estimated 12 million women will benefit from the expansion in the EITC and CTC that are extended in this agreement.

· Working mother with three children making $20,000 will receive a tax cut of more than $2,100 from extending recent expansions in the EITC and Child Tax Credit as part of this agreement.

· One out of every three families gaining from the extension of these credits is headed by a single mother. Families headed by single mothers are among the most economically at risk in our fragile recovery. This extension of the EITC and CTC would direct substantial resources to these families, with an estimated 4 million of the families gaining being headed by single mothers. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/12/08/framework-a-tax-agreement-a-good-deal-working-families (Read rest on line!)

“Obama and GOP Make Deal on Taxes ” – Editorial – December 7, 2010

This is a full-blown disaster! The president’s continued lack of courage and leadership has now sunk to a level never imagined by this reader and great supporter of Mr. Obama since his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic convention. Not only does Obama’s decision to completely cave in to the Republicans go against one of his most ardent and passionate campaign promises, it adds almost a trillion dollars to the national debt over the next two years.

What is truly frustrating, disappointing and depressing is that we elected a president we thought had the strength of character, and the courage of his convictions that the country so desperately needed after eight awful years of George W. Bush. I never thought I would say anything like this, but if “W” were president today, and he believed extending the tax cuts for the wealth was the wrong thing to do, he would have told Congress exactly what they could do with their tax cuts for the super-rich, and it would have been something like, “stick them where the sun never shines.”

A nation we can be PROUD of and as we show the true teachings of our religious believes, values and missions of our faith, giving and compassion………

Our nation where our leaders, both Republican and Democrat deal and gamble their VALUES which must FIRST give to the wealthy in order to give and help the POOR and those in need. We should all be so proud as we have empowered and are part of this great system !!!

Happy Holidays to All !!!

From Westchester 4 change:

We are angered by President Obama's offer to compromise on an extension of the extra tax cuts on the top earners, as well as on a return to a lower rate for estate taxes, in order to secure middle class and unemployment relief. Polls demonstrate that this is out of step with the American public and we believe that Congress should fight for a better deal.

We hope you will call your Representatives and express the need for more fair and progressive economic policies that reduce, rather than exacerbate, income and wealth inequality. Our messages are simple – 1) these levels of economic inequality are unprecedented and unsustainable for the economy; 2) They are damaging for our democracy and the product of policy choices.

House OKs Administration Earmark for Israel's 'Iron Dome'

By Sara Sorcher

Friday, December 10, 2010 5 a.m.

Tucked into a massive continuing resolution approved by the House on Wednesday is an extra $205 million for an Israeli missile defense system that the Obama administration views as essential to the security of the Jewish state.

President Obama sought the funds in May—well after his fiscal 2011 budget request was sent to Congress—to help pay for production of Israel’s Iron Dome missile shield, which is designed to stop short-range rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. The money comes on top of a separate $200 million provision in the CR to support the Arrow theater missile defense program and other well-established U.S.-Israel missile defense ventures.

“This was a priority of Congress and President Obama, and it is the first funding of its kind for this important short-range rocket and artillery shell defense system,” Rep. Steve Rothman, D-N.J., a member of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, said about the Iron Dome funds. “Given the scrutiny that our nation is appropriately giving to every dollar expended for all purposes—including the defense of the United States and its allies—it is a mark of the great importance of these [missile defense] projects that they were included in this funding bill.”

Although the added funds for Iron Dome have received scant attention inside the Beltway, a Democratic appropriations staffer said there was no particular controversy over adding this to a measure that traditionally provides funds to keep the federal government operating at the previous year's spending levels. “Israel does enjoy strong bipartisan support in Congress so it was more amenable to include these types of funding,” the aide said.

But the looming switch to Republican control of the House next month has clearly changed the political environment in favor of deficit reduction and greater discipline in drafting spending measures, the staffer acknowledged. “I’ve talked with very pro-Israel Republican members of Congress who obviously supported the project because they support Israel, but even they hesitated because of the costs,” he said. “They didn’t want to support any of these [appropriations in the CR] because they interpret their [overall] mandate as cutting spending.”But the ever-growing threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, and the increasing strength of its proxies in Lebanon and Gaza, made the funding for the Iron Dome essential to pass, he added. As a presidential candidate in 2008, Obama went to Sderot, Israel, to affirm Israel's right to defend its citizens against Qassam rockets fired at the town and nearby communities by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip...(Read rest on line)

I don't know who took this shot, but I suspect KG might still have been at Davis Polk on 9/11. If she was, she would have been in harm's way, as I was, on that day. Even if she wasn't still at Davis Polk, she no doubt had many friends and clients who were directly affected. I can only imagine how she feels at the defeat of this no-brainer bill. Memories of that day never go away. Those unbelievable asses have no souls.

From Mira in NYC:

Today, December 5, 2010, would be my mother Resia Schor’s 100th birthday. This is not just a nostalgic realization looking back at a deep past, as it was for me in 2004 which was my father Ilya Schor’s centennial: he had died in 1961 so forty-three years separated his death from his centennial. My mother died only four years ago, nine days before her 96th birthday. So 100 wasn’t such a stretch. But she had no wish to make it to this landmark. “God forbid!” she said when at one point I explained to her that if she lived to but also died in 2010 I wouldn’t have to pay any estate taxes (an amusing conversation in the light of this week’s disgraceful actions in Congress!). She had retained her excellent memory, her very left politics, her judgment of people unblurred by sentiment, and her courage intact, but when the encroachments of age threatened her independence and her ability to work, she had had enough. When my friend Tom Knechtel said goodbye to her after a visit to Provincetown in the summer of 2006, he said, “I hope I see you here next summer.” “I hope not,” she answered, flashing a beautiful smile.

When I began A Year of Positive Thinking I said that it posed the challenge to myself to find contemporary art that I love but that I would also write about significant artworks, films, and political actions and speech from the near and the deep past that have given me the courage to become and continue to be an artist and an activist. From Fran in CA and Sunny in NY:

RIP Elizabeth Edwards, you fought the good fight!!

From our Congresswoman Nita:

Promoting Economic Recovery

As you may be aware, Congress and the Administration are working to extend tax relief for middle-class families and ensure those who lost their job through no fault of their own continue to receive unemployment benefits. These priorities are critical to support our fragile economic recovery. The agreement between President Obama and Congressional Republicans is a good start, and we continue our work to support economic recovery without dangerously swelling the federal deficit.

Ensuring Safety of Our Food Supply
Outbreaks of food-borne illness from foods like spinach, tomatoes, peanut butter, and cookie dough have raised questions about the safety of food on grocery store shelves. This week the House passed – and the Senate is expected to pass – the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act to protect public health and safety by preventing food contamination and ensure a quick and effective response if an outbreak does occur.

For more information about food safety, please click here.

Health Care for 9/11 Responders

It is shameful that Senate Republicans today blocked passage of the James Zadroga 9/11 health and Compensation Act, which the House passed in September. The Senate must pass the bill by the end of the year for it to be enacted into law, fulfilling our responsibility to provide health care for those who were sickened or injured as a result of their brave and selfless actions responding to the September 11 attacks.
To watch my remarks on the James Zadroga 9/11 health and Compensation Act, please click here.

From Sheila in Larchmont:

So we keep on calling: Gillibrand, Schumer, Pelosi, Reid, Sanders, Lowey...and hope that someone can figure out what negotiation or compromise really means. Good to see someone in there fighting!

From Herb sending Senator McCaskill letter from MO:

Republicans have gone around the bend. They have now blocked Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, military pay raises, unemployment benefits, medical care for 9/11 first responders, tax cuts for small businesses, and tax cuts for working families -- all to give extra tax benefits to folks on their second million dollars in income.
I don’t care if you’re a Democrat, a Republican, an independent, or a Tea Party member -- no American can take the Republicans’ promises about fiscal responsibility, deficit reduction, and protecting the middle class seriously anymore. Not after this week. This is insanity.

No matter what, we need to get this middle-class tax cut passed now, but that won’t be the end of this fight.

Join me now: Sign your name if you think we need to keep fighting to end the extra tax bonus to multi-millionaires, and use the money to reduce our debt.

A big part of my job is to protect the middle class and small businesses -- and continuing the middle-class tax cuts does that, while also pumping money back into the economy.

But, no matter what the Republicans say, extending tax cuts for the wealthiest 0.1% won’t help the economy. President Bush made the same promises almost a decade ago, when he told us giving a huge tax bonus to the very rich would have a big impact on our economy, and that the money would “trickle down” and create more jobs and stronger businesses.

Instead, the middle class is still struggling, the deficit has ballooned, and unemployment is at record levels.

All we’re going to get from these new tax cuts for multi-millionaires is billions of dollars added to the deficit.

The reality is that the Republicans are holding middle-class tax cuts, and help for the unemployed, hostage to give a tax bonus to the wealthiest Americans, while sticking us with the multi-billion dollar bill. I just don’t see how they can call themselves “fiscal conservatives” with a straight face any longer. But, if we want to save the hostages -- if we want the middle-class tax cuts the economy needs now -- we may have no more options at this point.

However, win or lose this week, I promise to you that this fight is not over.

Thank you for standing with me -- as many times as it takes -- to win this fight.

From Judy in Mamaroneck:

By Helen L. Burleson, Doctor of Public Administration

Statistically, America is now number 23 in the world in educational achievement.

Look to America’s fascination with Sarah Palin and how she has catapulted ignorance into a multi-million dollar enterprise. Americans on her level can’t get enough of her. The more she mocks intelligence and intellectualism, the more she increases her financial value. Not able to articulate a complete sentence, among her followers this is the new norm. As she sputters, sparks incoherent phrases of derision and mockery, the more they love her. She has become a household name, and has risen to the level of the people who are well known by just one name, like Cher, Oprah, Aretha, Bono, Heidi, Marilyn, Einstein, Ike, Mike, Teddy (both the first and the second – Theodore Roosevelt (also known as the rough rider) and Edward Moore Kennedy.

Palin has produced two books written by others and she has traveled the country greeted with admiration as she grows richer and richer. They call it folksy. They call it relating to her base. The more inarticulate she is, the more they love her.

Though she preaches abstinence, she is now the grandmother of a grandchild born out of wedlock, whose teen-aged mother is now capitalizing on promiscuity. On the speakers circuit, Bristol Palin can command in excess of ten thousand dollars telling teens that she made a mistake, and abstinence is the best policy. In other words, the old fashioned, don’t do as I do, do as I say you should do.

This mother and daughter duo are charming the dollars out of the pockets of the lesser educated people who identify with their common touch. Together as a package or solo, they are gold, pure and simple.

At a time when America is far behind much of the industrialized world, and learning and knowledge are the keys to responding to the technology era, the Palins are taking America back to the Stone Age. Remember the Stone Age when cave men were first learning how to use language, they spoke in sputters and single words and used body language to communicate.

We are in a knowledge-based race to develop and train a generation to get ahead in the age of technology and innovation. Perhaps we are on the wrong path. The Palins seem to have found the keys to the kingdom – ignorance and promiscuity. America seems to have an insatiable appetite for both.

Today, the quitter governor of Alaska, whose only aim seems to be to spread ignorance and hatred for the Obamas, took a swipe at Our First Lady, Michelle Obama. Adjudged the most powerful woman in the world, Michelle Obama, a Princeton University graduate, an attorney and a Harvard law school graduate is a beautiful, well poised, articulate and gracious lady. Palin, by contrast took 6 years and 5 colleges before she could earn a Bachelor’s degree in communications, is now the reigning queen of the trailer park crowd. Palin, also by contrast could easily qualify as the most ignorant woman in the world, yet she lashed out jealously at First Lady Michelle Obama.

Palin’s status in life is solidified and personified as the new low in the dumbing down of America. Bristol Palin, a chip off the old block is doing what her mother should be doing. Sarah should be on the speaker’s circuit saying that American women should not do as she did, but should stay in school, get a good education and add to the body of knowledge as the scholarly First Lady Michelle Obama does. Bristol’s message of don’t do what I did is hollow. Her practice abstinence message would be more effective if she had practiced what she now preaches.

The new cottage industry should not be ignorance and promiscuity because that only causes us to fall further behind in the race to the top for America to regain her position as the most admired and most imitated country in the industrialized world. The new cottage industry should be what President Obama proposes in his initiative to elevate the American standard of excellence with his “Race to the Top.”

Senate Fails to Force Action on ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

3:59 p.m.
Updated The Senate has turned down the attempt to move ahead with a defense bill that would repeal the ban on gay troops serving openly in the military. The vote was 57-40, three short of the 60 needed.

Republicans defeated a motion that would have cut off debate on an overall defense authorization bill, including repeal.

The move is a setback to President Obama and the Democratic leadership, who have made repealing the policy a key priority. And it short-circuited the efforts of a handful of Republicans who said they supported a repeal but wanted more time to negotiate the process of the voting.

Their leader, Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine, voted in favor of the motion but was not joined by any of her colleagues.

Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader, called for the key procedural vote on repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy despite having failed to reach agreement with Republicans to proceed.

Republicans had indicated that without an agreement about the number of amendments and the timing of the debate, they would vote against moving forward to vote on the legislation...

As for Sarah Palin... she is 100% ego and in it for as much money as she can amass! The fact that there are people who would vote for her for President because of her "folksines"s is frightening! I still wonder who is caring for her toddler with Down Syndrome, who clearly needs intensive early intervention and daughter Bristol's baby whose mother is busy on Dancing with the Stars and running around the country on the Speaking Circuit! The Tax Bill

On the elimination of the payroll tax this year, the social security 'trust fund.' AARP supports it, believing on faith it will be reinstated. Others are not so sure.

"In the future, proposals to further cut Social Security taxes -- including to do so on a permanent basis -- will certainly be on the table. Once politicians have tasted the political sweetness of tax cuts, they always come back for more. If they succeed, it will worsen the long-term budgetary challenges facing Social Security and create more room for opponents to attack. Indeed, simply by entering into a bipartisan agreement to change the way that Social Security taxes are discussed, the odds improve that one day, some politician might very well be able to scrap FDR's program."

Yes, and I was so disappointed that the press either didn't mention S and G's millionaire tax proposal (you had mentioned that a while ago), or if they did, they gave it short shrift. I really think that if the cutoff was at that point from the get-go, it would have to fly, but that's over.

The part of the bill that worries me, as you could see, is the looming ax on Social Security. The debt commission leveled its aim at SS as well--an old Republican target--and an old Democratic pillar. BTW, someone who emerged from that commission looking really good to me was a person I hadn't known before--the congresswoman from Chicago--Jan Schakowsky--

Last night, as I was unlocking my bike on a windswept Greenwich Village sidewalk after leaving a holiday party, a friend approached, cell phone in hand. A few minutes earlier, she and I had been inside, chatting happily amid the buzz and warmth of a holiday party. Now she had tears in her eyes. “Richard Holbrooke died,” she said.

Notwithstanding the hospital bulletins since he fell ill on Saturday—critical condition, damaged aorta, emergency surgery—this sudden, awful ending was a shock, because Richard Holbrooke was such an astounding volcano of vitality. Everything about him was large: his physical size, including the ultimate “in your face” face, a face like a Times Square billboard; his buzz-saw voice, a highly expressive instrument, equally adept at piano (a side-of-the-mouth, gossipy wisecrack, often pleasingly nasty) and forte (a high-decibel outburst of anger or indignation, almost always calculated for effect); his appetites (for experience, for danger, for praise, for power, for fun); and his ambitions (for himself, for his beliefs, for the United States, for the world). He was no doe-eyed peacenik, but as a diplomat he labored long and hard to seek alternatives to war and ways to end particular wars. He was sentimental about his own unsentimentality, romantic about his own tough-guy realism.(read rest on line http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/hendrikhertzberg/2010/12/holbrooke.html#ixzz18Ha8zY4X)

Exciting news! After passing unanimously in the Senate, the House of Representatives will vote on the International Protecting Girls by Preventing Child Marriage Act (S.987) as early as tomorrow, December 14!

Please call and/or email your Representative as soon as possible. A phone script and sample email, along with background info, is attached – please share this with your networks!

Did you know?...

Sixty million girls around the world are forced into marriage before the age of 18.

These child brides are twice as likely to be beaten or threatened with violence by their husbands compared to girls who marry later in life.

Maternal health risks are particularly troubling as risk of death in pregnancy and delivery for girls under the age of 15 is five times higher than for women in their 20s.

Taken together, the costs of this practice are too high to be ignored. Societies cannot progress when even the common practice of marriage dooms girls and women to a life of poverty. The U.S. now has a chance to help girls around the world avoid early marriage.

Thank you for your support and patience during this process, and your action at this critical time.

Breaking News Alert: Post-ABC poll: public not yet sold on GOP

December 14, 2010 5:03:15 PM-

Republicans made major gains in the November elections but they have yet to win the hearts and minds of the American people, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The midterm elections – where Republicans gained 63 seats to take control of the House of Representatives and added six seats to their Senate minority – were widely seen as a rebuke to President Obama. Still, the public now trusts Obama marginally more than congressional Republicans to deal with the country’s main problems in the coming years, 43 to 38 percent. And when it comes to who has taken the stronger leadership role in Washington, it's an even divide: 43 percent say Obama, 42 percent the GOP.

From Susan in Rye:

I just was on the conference call with Nita and she spoke a bit about her support for the compromise bill that she feels must pass before the Republicans take control of the House in January. She also spoke about messaging for the 2012 election. I hope you will pass this piece along to Nita and let her know that athough I can understand her anxiety about what is ahead in January, I strongly disagree with her about voting for this compromise. I feel that the Democrats are relinquishing their fundamental core beliefs by acquiesing on the extra tax cuts for the top earners, particularly the estate tax ceiling at $5 million and the capital gains remaining at 15% (which Nita mentioned disagreeing with at our recent meeting). The Republicans' "win" on their core issue of retaining benefits for the top earners is not only disastrous because it exacerbates the huge inequity of income that has caused a collapse of the middle class in our country, but it also allows the Republicans to have a stronger bargaining position when they begin to cut programs due to the even larger deficit. I fear that this will come back to haunt the Democrats in 2012 and this will be a debacle. The Democrats' failure to capture the message of "no more extra tax cuts for the top earners" will be looked at as a lost opportunity.

Please pass this piece along to her and let her know that I appreciate all that she does for all of her constituents and I know she is doing what she thinks is best, but I wanted to express my thoughts and feelings on this subject to her.

I would be very pleased if you would put this in the blog along with two more links that Rachel located that really encapsulate the problems with this "deal."

Liberals, progressives and an overwhelming number of Democratic congresspersons are mad as hell at Barack Obama over the “deal” he reached with Republicans to extend the Bush tax cuts not only for the middle class, but for the nation’s top earners—despite his rhetoric ever since the 2008 campaign where he pledged he would restore the Clinton-era taxes for those earning more than a quarter-million bucks a year (In short, raise the top rate from 36 to 39 percent on portions of income above $250,000).

He continued the chant throughout the recent campaign season and right up to the point during the lame-duck session where he changed his mind and agreed to extend the cuts for everyone, with the top-earners’ extension for only two years (hypothetically). He signaled far too early that he would make such a deal, p

          Philosophers on 2016 Presidential Election

Slavoj Žižek, one of the most famous living philosophers, endorsed Donald Trump for president. As someone who cares greatly about philosophy’s role in the world, I was disappointed by this news, and not simply because I disagree with him. Žižek is an unusual philosopher. While he’s highly controversial, he’s both publicly and academically renowned and he uses his own philosophy and ideas from great historical thinkers to engage with contemporary events. As a result, he’s one of the few philosophers whose political views are widely reported and listened to.

Unfortunately, this means that when Žižek speaks about Trump, he does so in a public-philosophy vacuum, as there are few other philosophers who can or will publicly debate his ideas. Ironically, by wading into discussion over the US election, Žižek has effectively highlighted philosophy’s failure to engage in contemporary public discourse.

Read it all here.

Here is what Zizek has said in an interview with Sergio Cantone.

Sergio Cantone: “Donald Trump. The phenomenon of Donald Trump. So the US is facing a kind of revolutionary period?”

Slayoj Zizek: “Of course, Trump is personally disgusting, bad racist jokes, vulgarities and so on. But at the same time did you notice how he said some very correct things about Palestine and Israel? He said we should also see Palestinian interests and approach the situation in a more neutral way. He said we should not just antagonise Russia, find a dialogue there. He was even for higher minimal wages. He hinted that he would not like simply to cancel Obama’s universal health care, Obama care …”

Sergio Cantone: “He is a liberal centrist …”

Slayoj Zizek: “Yes! That’s my provocative thesis! That if you scrap this ridiculous and, I admit it, dangerous surface, he is a much more opportunist candidate and his actual politics perhaps will not be so bad.”

Most readers have probably heard by now about an interview in which Trump jokes about various acts of sexual assault and how he can get away with them, which now is leading to speculation that he'll withdraw (he won't) or, perhaps a bit more likely, that the Republican Party will instruct the electors to choose someone else when they vote in December, probably Mike Pence, the extremely conservative Indiana Governor who is Trump's usually invisible VP candidate.  That would be a risky gambit for the Republicans, since it's not clear whether the message would get out in time to affect the election, and it's also not clear what the effect would actually be, given the cult-like loyalty Trump enjoys among an alarmingly large segment of the electorate.   I'll add links if I see any intelligent analyses of these possible scenarios (please e-mail me, readers, if you see any).  As things stand now, we are looking at a huge win for the Democrats, and Trump still has another month of gaffes and outbursts to come (plus two more debates, starting tomorrow)!
ADDENDUM:  This is informative on the options, such as they are.
ANOTHER:  Senator McCain, the 2008 Republican nominee, officially withdraws support for Trump.  The Republican implosion begins.  Amazing it took this long!

          Something Very Short
Not much about the I Ching in this post. Just a few short notes, hope to get going again tomorrow or a day or two.

I have been very interested in world events for some time now. There was much debate about whether the Month of December in 2012 would bring some drastic changes. Some thought it was the end of the world. When nothing of particular, (seemingly) importance happened on that day people just ascribed it to the lunatic fringe. Nothing could be further from the truth. It had real significance and still does, and this whole thing is not over. The world is about to experience turmoil like never before. But it won't happen tomorrow or the year after. It is a gradual thing. We are starting to experience it.

The gist of it is this. We are entering a new era. And those who understand the nature of the world and how it works, have a fairly good idea, though not exact, of how things are playing out. The world's elite, the international bankers, the upper level master masons, those controlling behind the scenes are playing us for fools. And it doesn't matter which country you live in or how educated you are. You have been lied to and reality is not anything like what we are taught in schools. Those of us living in the United States are aware of the news that came out about Obama Care, and how the architects of the program have stated that they purposely lied to the American people about how it worked and what it would cost because we are too stupid to know what is good for us. As "snake oily" as that comment is, there is some truth to it in the sense that we have always been lied to, and believe the lies we are told. It has always amazed me, that when we in the west elect our leaders, on the one hand we know they lie, on the other we listen to what they say, and tend to believe them, and vote for our candidate thinking he or she is going to make change, and nothing ever changes. It is because they are counting on the gullibility of the American public.

Well, if you don't live in the west don't think you are not affected because the same thing is true in your country, whether you vote for your leaders or live in a totalitarian state. You are still being lied to. And your leaders think the common folk are unbelievably stupid just as ours do. This world is ruled by a Luciferian principle, whether there is any Lucifer or not, it amounts to the same thing. The elite lie to us about everything, and laugh about it, just like they did with Obama Care.

I will not get into this any further at this time. I just want to mention and recommend a book or two that relates to "esoteric" Christianity, and other "esoteric" systems as well. One book I would recommend is "End Times and 2019. For 2012 was the beginning of this seven year system. If anyone doubts this, it has been documented in main stream magazines and news that the United States intends to start microchipping its population in the year 2017. See what the book of Revelations, starting with chapter 13, has to say about it. Other books might be books written by David Flynn, such as "Temple at the center of time." Or the book by his brother, Mark Flynn, "Labrynth." You might find them interesting.

Hi,, I am hoping for a conservative, however these south carolina people are the ones who gave us gooober, lindsey graham, john edwards they gave us john mccain, they gave us elana kegan, they gave us sonya sotomayar, and looks like now donald trump,, no hope This is a real wake up call for america today, Now with the loss of Justice Scalia, now obama has the chance to really demoralize america. Since the lazy, apathetic , diaper wearing republicans have sat idle for years and have not stood up and demanded impeachment (and there are impeachment information posted at the bottom of this page, recent impeachment hearing, Did you know of this????, have you heeeeered this) this muslim america hating dictator who has committed treason against america still sits in office, with no republicans with the guts to oppose him There is a time for truth, Time to tell the truth as to why we have obama in the first place , and why do we have homosexual marriage, and those who claim to be the messengers of truth , do not want truth when it is aimed at them Well you have the bib wearing simpleton fools who told us christians were not supposed to be involved in politics, rather they should just sit there and ?/ what pray?, pray while they neglected their civic duty, believing a lie Then they tell you that wayell uuh, uuh hee haw you dat uh, the Lord sets kings and he gona put in dair who heya want to, showing their ignorance of the bible. So then on that belief is God a dictator?, or is he God of freedom?, Did not God establish America?, and give us a system to choose? our president? You cannot have it both ways, either he dictates who our ruler is , or lets us choose our leader http://www.redstate.com/diary/griffinelection/2012/11/14/what-went-wrong-in-2012-the-case-of-the-4-million-missing-voters/ http://www.christiannewswire.com/news/584105644.html However when you have so called conservative, christian bib wearing simpletons, who in 08 rejected the man of God, a intelligent man a pastor,,,,,,,(MIKE HUCKABEE),, and instead THEY wanted a war hero I remember watching the results come in and hoping for SOUTH CAROLINA to do the right thing, however, these fools went for john mccain You have to question the judgement of these people, well just look at who they keep choosing to be their senator, GOOBER, OH LIBERAL GOOBER, the war hero's friend. As I listen to Brian Fischer on AFR, AFA, they like hannity and limbaugh always want to rail against these bad judges , these left wing socialist activist judges whom the SOUTHCAROLINIANS help put in pace. Yes that is true, these judges did not seat themselves The people of south carolina knew ahead of time that lindsey graham was a traitor, a liberal, a rino, and lied to the people to get elected and what did you do?YOU ELECTED HIM AGAIN, you said you approve, then the south carolinian's elected sotomayor and kegan, you south carolinian's are responsible in part for homosexual marriage, and obama care When you people knew he was gong to endorse another liberal judge did you stand up?, did you protest?, did you demand he step down? No I was watching and listening and you people did nothing, not a word, lifted not a finger And now since the republican primary is in south carolina this weekend, we conservatives yearning for a REAL REGAN CONSERVATIVE as we now have one, we wonder will these simpletons really do the right thing for our country ??, will you have enough common sense? will you vote for a born again christian constitutional conservative TED CRUZE??, or will you screw the country again as you have before? STAND UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING FOR GOD SAKE and while we can --CAL FOR IMPEACHMENT Linsey graham ,a yes for sotomayor http://www.freedomworks.org/content/another-proof-lindsey-graham-obama-republican-he-crossed-party-lines-vote-obamas-supreme http://www.politico.com/story/2009/07/graham-a-yes-on-sotomayor-025306 Lindsey graham,a yes for sonya sotomayor "quote she is well qualified http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/article24547321.html Lindsey graham votes YES FOR kagan http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2010/07/lindsey-graham-dramatically-casts-his-vote-for-elena-kagan/60082/ Linsey Graham freedom index score http://www.thenewamerican.com/freedomindex/profile.php?id=G000359 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ IMPEACHMENT http://northamericanlawcenter.org/ http://northamericanlawcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/articles_of_impeachment_of_barack_hussein_obama_3.2_march_2_2015.pdf http://cdjnews.com/2016/01/rnc-scuttles-impeachment-committee-vote/ http://www.renewamerica.com/article/160108 http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2016/01/dave_agema_calls_for_impeachme.html Govt coming door to door, to check on children https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByQjw99BzPw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EsKBsq95A0 The nine members of the RNC Resolutions Committee who blocked the measure from the full body are as follows… Carolyn McLarty (Oklahoma) Chair Melody Potter (West Virginia) Paul Reynolds (Alabama) Tamara Scott (Iowa) Steve Scheffler (Iowa) Pat Longo (Connecticut) John Frey (Connecticut) Rosie Tripp (New Mexico) Linda Acherman (California) Republicans were given the purse strings in 2010 and have n

Comment on New Health Care Bill Pros and Cons: Obama Health Care Plan Explained by mmurdz
There are a lot of misinformed people apparently!! Obama care costs 10% of your wages even if you are barely middle class if you have decent insurance considered "cadillac" insurance. You make 3300 you pay 330. If that is before taxes you take home roughly 2300 minus 330. I escaped poverty and now I am back in it. My dream of home ownership is dead. Further my "Cadillac" insurance was the only thing that saved my life when I had an aneurysm and needed the best Dr money could buy. The next one I will not have that option because my company goes to Obama care. I will most likely die. Yet I get to pay for some Mexican to come here pregnant, give birth, and get free medical and welfare. While i get to die! Plus they take our jobs for the young people, college students, and high school students!! As far as Canadian insurance. They go on a waiting list for medical procedures. Many come to the united states for care because of their "Awsome" insurance program!!
          Two Years
Another December 19, is here, and for us at WBAL it is a sad anniversary.

It was on this day in 2011, that Ron Smith, "Our Voice of Reason," lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.

It seems hard to believe that it has been two years.  The time has flown.

I still run into people who will tell me how they miss Ron.  They wonder what his take would be on the challenges of implmenting Obama Care, gun control, the NSA and the Ravens. They tell me how Ron was part of their ride home for so many years, and there is a certain emptiness in their day.

I always tell his fans that Ron continues to have a big impact on all of us who work at WBAL.

We hear his voice throughout the building, reminding us that we need to cover the issues fairly, and treat all sides with dignity and respect. He would also remind us not to take ourselves too seriously and have a little fun.

I also tell his fans that there's is a very intense effort to find a way to detect pancreatic cancer early.  It is led by Dr. Dan Laheru, Ron's doctor at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, as well Dr. Judy Whang, whi is the first Ron Smith Fellow at Hopkins.  Her fellowship was made possible by the Friends of Ron Smith, the charity started by Ron's wife June.

Dr. Laheru told me back in September that  establishing an endowment to fund this research is the best way, "to honor Ron's history of teaching and education."

I've said this before and I'll say it again.  Ron Smith is still a big influence around here.

As I said in this blog last year, we still try to live by the words he said in his final broadcast Baltimore Sun column.

“What is a mere individual to do? Lead as sane and decent life as you can, love your family and your friends and understand that everybody is in this together.”

Two years  later, Ron may be gone but his voice and influence remains, here at "The Mighty 1090."
